If the CSR asks you to reboot the modem and then declares victory when three upload channels appear, thats just kicking the can down the road for the next CSR to handle. That's not a solution to the problem.
That's what I'm afraid of. I think it's very likely that's what they will say. lol.

@netprice2high call tech support and advise the Customer Service Rep that you only have one upstream channel running, yes, there should be three upstream channels. Ask the CSR to run a signal check on the modem. It will fail automatically due to the single upload channel situation.
The CSR should arrange for a tech visit at your convenience.
I would remove the attenuator if it indicates 3 or 6 db. A 9 db attenuator removal would probably result in signal levels that are too high. The attenuator should be probably be removed altogether as the original signal levels will change when the tech addresses the cable and/or connector issue that is causing the single channel situation.
The purple download indicator (it should be magenta) indicates that the modem is using DOCSIS 3.1 on the download side. The upload side is still DOCSIS 3.0.
So I thought I'd removed the attenuator before calling CS, it is marked as being a -9 one. But the signals didn't jump up as high as I thought they would. Some of them are very close to the optimal 0, and some are even AT 0. 😮 I never had any channel at perfect 0 before.
I have been monitoring it everyday since I removed it a few days ago and I haven't had the upstream channels dropping to only 1 channel again. I did have a disconnect one day randomly but only once. Also my upstream light is now blue instead of green. Today the firmware got updated, 220.127.116.11T4 now, will see how the new versions works.

I have a CODA-4582U modem with firmware version 18.104.22.168T4 and get the error message "Only allow DHCP client to use this wireless" on a regular basis when trying to access the Guest SSID. It's incredibly inconsistent - sometimes it allows my Windows laptop on and sometimes not. Same thing with my iPhone, but it never allows my wife's Android phone or tablet on. What do I do?

@MoJones I don't know if there is anything that you can do with or to the modem to solve this issue. This keeps coming up and there hasn't been any solutions offered to date. I don't know if the engineering staff has this on the hit list for problem investigations. I suspect that if you're really looking for better Guest capabilities, then, sorry to say this, but buying a router might be the path to take.

A few days ago I was told to swap our CODA-4582. Is there any way to force a firmware update? The modem is on .28T2 and I've tried rebooting and power cycling the modem a few times over the last couple of days.

@sdgdgsdgsds call tech support and ask the Customer Service Rep to put your modem on the overnight update list. I don't think that they can force an update on demand.
Also, copy the modems HFC Mac address from the STATUS page that shows up when you log into the modem. Send that to @CommunityHelps. That is the group address for the moderators. Follow that link to the public page for @CommunityHelps. On the right hand side is a link to "Send this user a private message". Follow that link to the message composition page. Fill in the title and details and hit the send message link on the bottom right.
In that message you can request one of two actions. The first is to check the modem's HFC MAC address against the protected modem list. That list is used to prevent modem updates for Trial version modems. Sometimes a modem may be returned that was running Trial Firmware. That modem should be removed from the protected list if that's the case, but, there is the odd occasion where that doesn't happen and the modem is sent back out again. It won't update on its own when its returned to service. That's pretty rare. You can request the mods to check your modem's MAC address against the list and remove it from the list.
The other possibility here is to ask to be included in the Trial Firmware program, if you so choose. That will result in your modem being loaded with the latest trial version firmware. That firmware undergoes initial testing by the engineering staff prior to release to the trial group. If all goes will, in about 6 weeks to 2 months, that version is released to the network as the latest production firmware version. Your modem will be kept on the protected list to prevent inadvertent roll backs to the current network firmware, but, it will also be included in the Trial Firmware Version list, where those modems will be updated to the most recent Trial Version when its pushed out by the engineering staff.
When a response is sent to your message, you will see a number overlaying your avatar in the upper right hand corner when you're logged into the forum. That avatar servers as a link to your profile and message inbox and outbox. Follow that avatar link down to your message inbox to respond to any incoming messages.
You can send anyone in the forum a message by selecting or double clicking on their name, which serves as a link to their public page. On the right will be the same "Send this user a private message link" to take you to the message composition page.

So I will be getting a new modem for my new plan soon. Going from 60 to 500, anything I should know when I go and pick up the modem? I think it will be this modem. Is this the latest model? I know with the CGN they had different models. Thank you.

@Square I'm assuming that you were chatting with Customer Service to upgrade to the 500 Mb/s plan? In the course of that conversation, did the Customer Service Rep indicate that he or she was generating a work order which would allow you to swap the modems? That has come up recently as there appears to be a requirement at some stores to have a work order in place to allow the swap. You could call the local store just to check on whether or not they require the work order. Apparently some stores require the work order, some don't. No idea of why that is. So, if you need the work order and don't know if one has been generated on your behalf, call Customer Service to have that done.
When you have the modem at hand, ensure that all of the plastic covering is removed. They're in separate pieces, so you will need to ensure that they're all removed.

I just switch from the CGN3 to this CODA-4582U white modem/Router. T4 firmware loaded, second most recent version, T5 is the newest as of this post, also all power levels close to 0
With the CGN3 on the 250/20 package I was getting a solid 330/21 from speedtest.net and the rogers speed test site for years. This Hardware works great no issues, gaming or downloading.
Promo was ending so I called and was told this package was no longer offered so the CSR gave me the 500/20 for $88.13 taxes in for 2 years. But I needed to visit a rogers store to pickup new hardware "CODA-4582U"
Right after installing the new hardware I did a few speed tests and it would only pull 254/21 every time.
I then called support and went through all their instructions to troubleshoot with the same results. In fact they even wanted me to test the speed using fast.com which resulted in ever slower results. 190/21 So a tech visit was scheduled.
On my own the next day I asked myself lets try my usual private torrent sites, and sure enough the modem speed was working just fine, getting 60+ Mbps download, very odd that most of the speed test site are chocked up. There was one that worked and showed the full speed but it's using HTML5 found it with a google search looking for test sites. Anyways this modem works great and I'm posting this info for the newbies or less tech people that would think something is wrong but is actually not.
I'm still waiting for FTTH, when that comes thats what i'll be using, but for now this is all my block has being built in 2007.

I wonder if the speedtest sites put a lot of burden on the client computer. For example, my gateway (router) is a tiny slow PC and speedtest, when run on the gateway, is slower than when it is run on a computer behind the gateway.
I'm pretty sure that the standard speedtest uses HTML5 since my systems have never supported Flash.
What hardware were you running speedtest on? (My gateway's processor is a Celeron 2961Y at 1.1GHz. My Rogers service is supposed to be a gigabit.)

Have the issues with this modem been sorted out?
I was an early adopted of the Gigabit internet and started with the Black Rogers Ignite Rocket Modem. This modem is the best and I have no problems with it. Now that my contract is coming to an end, the CSR had to put out a work order like mentioned in a previous post. This means I have to go and give them my good modem for the new white big one (CODA-4582).
When the big white modem came out, there was so many issues with it that it looked like the customers were the testers...not Rogers employees. Had lag spikes constantly, not even getting close to gigabit speeds. The big issue was the lag spikes because for gamers this is a big NO. It was as if the modem lost connection for a few seconds. After countless hours with Tech Support and multiple visits to the rogers store I was able to get my GOOD black Rogers Ignite Rocket modem which I have been running for 2 years no problems!.
So my question is, is the newer modem stable now...or can I keep my old rocket one still?

I have actually had the white modem for awhile now with zero issues at all... until 3 weeks ago poof I have unbearable lag spikes playing games online, it is constantly loading Netflix and surfing the web has become an agonizing chore.
I have the 500U service which has been amazing for years, on November 6 I lost all my rogers services, internet, phone and tv. trouble shooting I unplugged the cable from the splitter waited a few mins the plugged it back it, this brought everything back but everything was slower, with constant interruptions.
Tech has been out here twice with no luck, told me it was the modem which he replaced. I have since bridged the modem but the problem is still there just not as bad. I have been a customer for a long time it always surprises me when customer support tells you nothing is wrong and if there is a problem it is my fault.
I am just at a loss how for years there is no problem and poof out of no where I lose a fantastic service.

Could you please connect the Ethernet cable directly from the modem to the computer (not in bridge mode)?
Then, open a web browser and enter the following address to access the gateway login page: 192.168.0.1.
Login using the following credentials:
Click Status at the top of the page and the DOCSIS WAN tab.
Copy and paste the results, but please make sure to remove your MAC address.

@azar1, your signal levels don't look too bad
The upper DOCSIS 3.0 signal levels are ok. There's a high frequency roll off at the upper 800 Mhz frequencies which is typical for the Rogers network. The signal to noise ratios are ok.
The signal levels DOCSIS 3.1 OFDM section is anyone's guess. There isn't enough data shown to arrive at a conclusion. You would have to call tech support and ask the CSR if the DOCSIS 3.1 OFDM signal levels are within their expected operating range. That data is aggregated across the entire 192 Mhz band for the OFDM channel, so, the parameters that tech support has access to doesn't show anomalies that can occur within that band. The data that is presented shows that the modem has one active OFDM channel so it should be using DOCSIS 3.1 on the downstream side.
The upstream DOCSIS 3.0 levels are ok. The usual range that we see runs from 30 to 32/22 dBmV. There is one channel that is running slightly higher, but that's not an issue.
The upstream DOCSIS 3.1 is not applicable at this time as its still in the test stage with Rogers. From what I understand, there is no ISP anywhere that is running DOCSIS 3.1 upstream at the present time.
So, I'd expect your modem to be running as expected. You should be seeing the full data rates that are comparable with your internet plan. For the gig plan, I'd expect to see ~930 Mb/s, maybe slightly higher on a speedtest.

Does anyone at Rogers have an idea why the CODA-4582 DOCSIS WAN IP shows to be in the range of 7.31.x.y with the gateway on 22.214.171.124?
ARIN.NET shows a pretty interesting owner for the network 126.96.36.199/8.

Here is my setup.
Rogers (500U) —> Hitron CODA-4582U
My download speed is 80% slower when I am using the modem wifi, when using wired connection my download speed is ~450mbps but when I use the wifi connection, sitting besides the modem, the connection drops to ~80mbps.
I just got a Asus ac86u, but I would like to figure it out this problem before include it on my setup. @Datalink, could you please help me?

@rafagomes can you log into the modem at 192.168.100.1, and navigate to the STATUS .... DOCSIS WAN tab. Copy the entire Downstream Overview table, from that title all the way down to the bottom. Ignore the data that is above the Downstream Overview title. Paste that data into a post so we can see whats up with the signal levels. Depending on what device your testing wired speeds with, I'd expect you to run at least 500 Mb/s, probably a little higher due to Rogers overprovisioning on the 500 Mb/s and lower plans.
Are you running a 2.4 or 5 Ghz network?
If you're running a Windows pc or laptop, drill down into the Device Manager, down to the wifi adapter. Copy the entire adapter name (highlight, or select and copy) and run a google search with that data. See if you can dig up the adapter specs which will indicate the maximum raw data rate that the adapter will run. This particular info is part of the mix of information that you need to determine how fast the adapter can run and how fast you're able to see it running, whats the max theoretical number versus the real world number that you're seeing?
Log into the router and check your current wifi network settings against the following list. Adjust your router settings as shown in this list.
2.4 Ghz wifi network:
Wireless Mode: N only
Channel Bandwidth: 20/40 Mhz
Control Channel: Auto
Extension Channel: Auto
Authentication Method: WPA2-Personal
WPA Encryption: AES
5 Ghz wifi network:
Wireless Mode: N/AC mixed

Authentication Method: WPA2-Personal
WPA Encryption: AES
Assuming that you're running two networks, one 2.4 and one 5 Ghz network, I'd recommend using different network SSIDs so that you know which network the device is connected to.
Reboot the router when the changes are saved.
Note that I recommend the higher 5 Ghz channels to run the max power output of 1 watt, which is allowed in that upper range. The lower 5 Ghz channels are restricted to 50 or 200 milli-watts depending on when the device was approved by Industry Canada. 200 milli-watts is the current restriction. The higher power output will result in a larger operating range from the router or modem and a higher throughput due to higher signal to noise levels. That higher power won't counteract the problem of shared wifi channels in locations where wifi is highly congested due to a large number of users. Thats the primary reason why one can stand beside the modem or router and see a fraction of the download speeds via wifi compared to what you would see via wired connection. Too many users and not enough channel transmit time to go around, so everyone's wifi, on that particular channel runs slow.
Load inSSIDer and the Lizard Systems wifi scanner to determine who else you're competing with for clear wifi channels. For 2.4 Ghz networks, that pretty well impossible these days if you happen to live in a city or its suburbs. On 2.4 Ghz, its highly likely that the best you might be able to do is 80 Mb/s, as you are currently seeing. The 5 Ghz should produce better results, but, again, it depends on where you live and you're wifi environment.
Depending on your wifi environment, you're probably better off if you can shift any devices out of the 2.4 Ghz band, up to the 5 Ghz band. While 2.4 Ghz networks have a larger range, the 5 Ghz band with its lesser range, wider available bandwiths (80 Mhz) and reduced number of users will result in a much faster data rate. That would probably be the typical result, however, for residents of highrise buildings or condos, that might not work as expected. It all depends on how many other nearby wifi users are running 5 Ghz networks.

Have a look at your wifi environment with inSSIDer to see who else you're competing with and whether or not you can really do anything about it. The Lizard systems scanner is similar but presents more detailed info to the user. Each one has its applications, depending on what one wants to look at. The column data can be sorted top to bottom or vice versa by clicking on the column titles. That's useful to sort by channel, to see how many other users are on your channel, or sort by power level to see what other modems or routers are close to your home.
If you need help with the interpretation, take a screenshot using Ctrl+Alt+Prt Scrn and paste that into something like Microsoft Paint or other image application. Wipe out your MAC address and then save the image. You can include that image in a post if you prefer.
Note that although the 86U has a fast processor (1.8 Ghz), compared to a lot of other routers in use today, its not immune to running slower than expected. Functions such as QOS, Traffic Monitoring, Traffic Filtering, etc, which cause the data to route thru the CPU for analysis and processing will slow the throughput thru the router. I don't use anything except the AI Protection, firewall and wifi. Everything else has been deliberately disabled. So, it might be worth reviewing all of the General and Advanced settings and their sub-selections to disable anything and everything that you have no intention of using. When that is all completed, reboot the router.
Let me know how this turns out. Assuming that you can drastically improve on the wifi performance, anything else that is router specific should be referred to SNB forum.

Hi just bought the RT-AC86U. I am connected to a rogers modem GIG speed via bridge mode. I am also using TP-Link AV 2000 2-Port 2000 Mbps power line adapters to connect to my streaming box downstairs. I am not sure why I am only getting 170Mbps download when I am using 1 gig speed. Now I know I wont get that kind of speed, but 170 is kinda slow. Any ideas or settings I should change? I am on Merlin firmware.

@Ramz can you post the rest of the table that sits below that data?
All of the DOCSIS 3.0 signal levels are low, so, I'd like to see the rest of the table.
Is that 170 Mb/s thru the modem in Gateway mode, or is that thru the router with the modem in Bridge mode?
What do you get when you run a speedtest thru the modem when its in Gateway mode?
