Hi there!
I can't seem to find the option to enable the USB port on the Hitron CODA-4582 modem. I am using software version 2.0.10.24. Any idea how I can turn it on? I was using the USB port on the previous modem for network attached storage and my back ups are pending! 🙂
Thanks!
Chris
My understanding is it's not yet enabled in the current firmware.

So my downstream light is light blue and I think 3.1 is disabled, but I see an ofdm downstream? Also I think it's causing my pihole to malfunction? Wi-Fi devices aren't being filtered but ethernet devices are. The modem has been power cycled over 6 times today so that doesn't seem to work. Firmware is 24

if you see a OFDM channel then you are on DOCSIS 3.1
The downstream channel should be light blue, and Upstream dark blue. Have you tried a factroy reset of the modem, or only Power Cycle? To factory reset use a pen tip to push and hold the reset button on the back of the modem for 10 seconds then release. The modem will reboot and you will have to go through setup again.

I've both rebooted and factory reset it but it appears to be working well, I just thought the downstream light had to be purple for 3.1 to be activated

to me it looks light blue, others say purple, it all depends how your brain decodes colours.

coda-4582 reboots everyday
Hey Guys,
I use the internet heavily everyday and was suffering frequent disconnects and reboots with the old CGN3 modem in bridge mode. I thought the new CODA 4582 would be better and it too hangs and reboots everyday, today I needed to power cycle it while I was just browsing the web. I do not know what the problem is.
Googling this I feel there might be a signal issure. Posting the modem log here, what do you guys think? Would appreciate your input.

Its a definite possibility. With the CGNM-3552 in Bridge mode, I would see a modem crash within one to two hours with a VPN running. Other than that, the modem was absolutely stable. Start the VPN and it wouldn't be long before the modem crashed. So, as a suggestion, keep track of the days where you use a VPN and see if a modem crash/restart appears to be related to the VPN usage. I haven't had an opportunity to test the 4582 with a VPN running to see if I could duplicate the crash. There is another post that I've seen recently with a similar situation, where the 4582 was crashing, but, haven't seen a resolution of it.

thanks will keep that in my mind. However, today morning I was not using VPN and it still crashed. Do you think my signal levels are ok or a tech needs to check my wiring? considering ive been through 2 modems now and both having an average restart everyday..

Does the modem have a black dot (black sticker) on the back of the modem near the power cord?
Can you log into the modem and let me know what Software (firmware) version is loaded?
Reason for asking is that you are missing some of the DOCSIS 3.0 channels which is indicative of one of the first versions of the CODA-4582. A modification has been applied which adds additional shielding over the DOCSIS tuner, and indicated by one or two black dots (stickers) on the modem.

Does anyone know when the IPv6 DNS manual IP address entry option will be implemented!
I have young children, where I need to use OpenDNS to filter the garbage from the internet.
At the moment, on Coda firmware v2.0.10.24, there are no fields to manually enter alternate IPv6 DNS servers. There is only the IPv4 DNS option available.
Please help, thank you!

@99bobster99 even with an IPV6 DNS field in the modem, if you entered the equivalent of the OpenDNS IPV4 DNS address into the IPV6 DNS address field, you would still have the problem of OpenDNS answering the IPV6 address query without any filtering. The only way around that one is to use a router which will allow you to turn off IPV6 until OpenDNS decides to enable IPV6 address filtering. That filtering issue appears to be the same for all other DNS providers as well, so, OpenDNS (now Cisco) is not the only company that isn't prepared to provide that type of filtering service for IPV6. Unfortunately, for now, you will have to force the devices on your LAN to run IPV4 only.

Unfortunately, MOCA is not a user controllable feature.
To use MOCA, there need to be a filter on your coax line to prevent your network from spreading outside of your home. Also, MOCA would interfere with the Whole Home PVR service so it is therefore not possible at this time to use it.

This feature was never certified on this or any of our modems so short answer is no.
MoCA can have serious impact to your neighbors if not implemented properly so it would require extensive lab testing cycles to certify this feature. We unfortunately don't have a proper use case to support this activity at the moment.
Things may change in the future but for now, I can't get engineering resources assigned for this.

@RogersDave thanks for the info, definitely not blaming you, you've been a great help to everyone here! But I wish there wasn't so much red-tape to implement these things 😞
I imagine anyone with WHPVR would have a MoCA PoE filter - this could be part of an Internet install to not affect neighbors.
I purchased Telus branded Actiontec bonded MoCA 2.0 adapters on eBay and they work great, but a little pricey so I was hoping to not sacrifice one to use as a host, and to avoid (even if just a little) signal degradation by the coax again to connect my MoCA adapter.
I assume those running the modem in bridge mode and using there own router(s) could benefit from MoCA.

@RogersDave, I am getting this warning one or two times a day and the modem will get rebooted every time, BTW, my modem is without the black dot, do I need to get it exchanged?
