Re: Rogers Hitron CODA-4582 Hardware

Wow, you rock! Thanks for the speedy and detailed reply and for raising the performance issues. I'm on 2.0.10.27, followed those steps and still was not able to get the VPN to connect only using IPv4 with the manual DNS's. I wish there was an error log to share. To be continued...

Re: Rogers Hitron CODA-4582 Hardware

@boozilla, reboot the device(s) to ensure that they only have an IPV4 address present.  I'm assuming that the VPN provider does provide an IPV4 service only?  Does it fire up at all or are you having troubles connecting?

I will make it a point to check on, and inquire about the IPV6 DNS address entries if necessary.

Re: Rogers Hitron CODA-4582 Hardware

Surprisingly for me and not being a part of the trial Coda 4582 testers program I found out that when I opened my Coda to check my details I found that somehow, and I do not know through whose action, my Version has been upgraded from Version .26T2 to the Software Version 2.0.10.27

I havent seen anything posted about the version .27 being pushed to the regular customer.

Could anyone explain why I have as of Today the .27?

Also, I am perplexed by the results of the Gigabit Internet on the U63 plan I am signed to. Please see below: (My) Individual Results on Speedtest.net through the Rogers Toronto server

Note that at the beginning of Today the uploads speeds plunged to less than half the speeds and downloads to about the same percentage of yesterdays speeds

I would appreciate information and comments.

Thank you kindly

@QueJoder, firmware 2.0.10.27 has been promoted to production as of May 23. We are not actively upgrading modems but if a modem is rebooted for whatever reason, it will automatically upgrade to this version.

Thank you Dave.

Any comments or ideas about the sudden drastic degradation on the upload and downloads speeds?

Re: Rogers Hitron CODA-4582 Hardware

I'm having the same issue, just that getting passed the first level support is painful.  My download is fine and my upload is horrible.  Now I'm being told that 15-20Mbps is acceptable for the 1Gbps/50Mbps plan...

Disappointed... Got a case opened now: C122948495

Re: Rogers Hitron CODA-4582 Hardware

@SeanMM Certainly 15-20Mbps  upload is NOT acceptable for your plan, and from what you're describing you could be experiencing high upload congestion on your node.

Can you hit 30+Mbps during the morning, but during peak times your upload drops to 15-20Mbps? If so, then you are experiencing high upload congestion. I would recommend talking to tier 2 support about this problem and ask them if they can do anything on their end to relieve upload congestion.

I've noticed the huge increase in upload utilization over the last 6 months and it makes gaming pretty hard. With the rapidly growing trend for the need for upload speed, MSO's should be increasing the uplink capacity as much as they can. This can be through node segmentation at the head end, or through physical work such as bringing more fibre to the cable nodes in neighborhoods.

OFDMA (Docsis 3.1 upload) should be coming within the summer months which is supposed to help alleviate some of the congestion issues, and as well make upload speeds up to 1Gbps possible. I'm pretty certain that 1Gbps upload will not be offered, but maybe as high as 300Mbps will be offered. With that, more work needs to be done to increase the uplink capacity of their nodes, especially if they want to offer upload speeds as high as 300Mbps; their nodes seem to be highly utilized so I'm hoping more resources will be allocated as they prepare to roll out OFDMA.

OFDMA can't come soon enough, and I do believe it will make a huge difference. You guys in Ontario will get it this Summer, maybe we have a chance to get it this Fall ( In New-Brunswick)!

Re: Rogers Hitron CODA-4582 Hardware

@RyzenFX

I've noticed the difference depending on the time of day, yes.  I have speed tests that show upload speeds of 48Mbps - 55Mbps during non peak hours.  Those have been provided to Rogers, but I'm being told that 15Mbps is acceptable and that the network isn't built for 50Mbps.  I understand that CMTS is designed for large download streams and not upload, I don't understand it when I'm able to achieve amazing speeds off peak hours.
