Surprisingly for me and not being a part of the trial Coda 4582 testers program I found out that when I opened my Coda to check my details I found that somehow, and I do not know through whose action, my Version has been upgraded from Version .26T2 to the Software Version 2.0.10.27
I havent seen anything posted about the version .27 being pushed to the regular customer.
Could anyone explain why I have as of Today the .27?
Also, I am perplexed by the results of the Gigabit Internet on the U63 plan I am signed to. Please see below: (My) Individual Results on Speedtest.net through the Rogers Toronto server

Note that at the beginning of Today the uploads speeds plunged to less than half the speeds and downloads to about the same percentage of yesterdays speeds
I would appreciate information and comments.
Thank you kindly

@QueJoder, firmware 2.0.10.27 has been promoted to production as of May 23. We are not actively upgrading modems but if a modem is rebooted for whatever reason, it will automatically upgrade to this version.

Thank you Dave.
Any comments or ideas about the sudden drastic degradation on the upload and downloads speeds?
05-28-2017 04:27 PM
I'm having the same issue, just that getting passed the first level support is painful. My download is fine and my upload is horrible. Now I'm being told that 15-20Mbps is acceptable for the 1Gbps/50Mbps plan...
Disappointed... Got a case opened now: C122948495

@SeanMM Certainly 15-20Mbps upload is NOT acceptable for your plan, and from what you're describing you could be experiencing high upload congestion on your node.
Can you hit 30+Mbps during the morning, but during peak times your upload drops to 15-20Mbps? If so, then you are experiencing high upload congestion. I would recommend talking to tier 2 support about this problem and ask them if they can do anything on their end to relieve upload congestion.
I've noticed the huge increase in upload utilization over the last 6 months and it makes gaming pretty hard. With the rapidly growing trend for the need for upload speed, MSO's should be increasing the uplink capacity as much as they can. This can be through node segmentation at the head end, or through physical work such as bringing more fibre to the cable nodes in neighborhoods.
OFDMA (Docsis 3.1 upload) should be coming within the summer months which is supposed to help alleviate some of the congestion issues, and as well make upload speeds up to 1Gbps possible. I'm pretty certain that 1Gbps upload will not be offered, but maybe as high as 300Mbps will be offered. With that, more work needs to be done to increase the uplink capacity of their nodes, especially if they want to offer upload speeds as high as 300Mbps; their nodes seem to be highly utilized so I'm hoping more resources will be allocated as they prepare to roll out OFDMA.

OFDMA can't come soon enough, and I do believe it will make a huge difference. You guys in Ontario will get it this Summer, maybe we have a chance to get it this Fall ( In New-Brunswick)!
05-28-2017 06:11 PM
I've noticed the difference depending on the time of day, yes. I have speed tests that show upload speeds of 48Mbps - 55Mbps during non peak hours. Those have been provided to Rogers, but I'm being told that 15Mbps is acceptable and that the network isn't built for 50Mbps. I understand that CMTS is designed for large download streams and not upload, I don't understand it when I'm able to achieve amazing speeds off peak hours.
05-28-2017 07:38 PM
Who said summer?
I heard it'll be closer to the end of the year for the gta.
05-28-2017 07:44 PM
@RogersDave said in a previous post '' not until Summer'' so we kind of assumed it will be around summer time.

Since they asked me to turn off v6, I can only assume, their VPN is IPv4 only. So I turned off IPv6, set it to only v4, entered the VPN DNS's and rebooted. No luck. My current CGN2-ROG at work handles this, as does my tablet, and just like my old home Motorola SB5101 did. Any recommendations for working CODA-4582 VPN solutions?

Router
Not saying this is a rogers issue but I need some help anyway.
I have the CODA 4582 modem with a AsusRT-N66U router and I'm getting an error message on the Asus saying "The WAN IP is not the external IP. External IP-based services will not work ". As simple as possible in laymans terms could someone explain to me what this means ? And how I can fix this. PLEASE remember SIMPLE. Much thanks.

@carlb Did you put the CODA Modem into bridge mode?
Unplug the ASUS Router, then plug the computer directly into the CODA Modem. Power on your computer, open a web browser and goto: 192.168.1.1, log in to the CODA Modem. User name is: cusadmin, password is your wifi password.
Once in, on the top select the menu for "Basic" settings, once there the option "Residential Gateway Function" should be set to disabled.
reboot the modem, once the modem is powered up, plug the ASUS Router "WAN" port to one of the 4 ports on the CODA. Power up the ASUS, connect your computers to the ASUS.
If you can't log in to the CODA or don't feel comfortable, you can call Rogers Tech Support and ask them to put the CODA into bridge mode.

Hi,
We just upgraded our modem (currently with Ignite 250). I briefly read your comments but I wasn't able to find a solution to issues I currently have with 4582.
I too have this various wifi speed.. range from 45mbps to 80mbps. But I get around 50mbps most of the time... no near close to 250.
The biggest concern is with network cables that are hardwired throughout the house..
When I first setup the modem, none of wired connection were working (we have 3) .. then it started to work magically the next day.
Then after few hours, none of 3 connections are working altogether all of a sudden... 1 is connected to a PC, 1 to PS4 and 1 to smart TV... I don't see any lights flashing either end of units..
I unplugged, rebooted and reset the router.. also rebooted all 3 devices but nothing helped..
Then I grabbed a short CAT5 cable and plugged right into my laptop.. and that WORKED.. which tells me the length of the cable may cause this issue??
your help is greatly appreciated.. thank you!

I just found out that there are different type of cables?? I will have to check the type of cable when I go home tonight..
I used to have ignite 100U and upgraded to 250U past weekend and that's when I received the new modem..
I assume maybe my cable is not compatible with 250gbps??
but how come it worked for few hours then stopped.??
I'm confused.. and hope someone here can answer my questions.. thanks!!

is this only work around? get a router?
06-05-2017 04:08 PM - edited 06-05-2017 04:14 PM
@zzeuss nope, not the right answer, unless you want more control over the various functions that are found in a router as opposed to the modem.
First step is to do some troubleshooting, but first, as usual, a few questions:
1. Are you using the modem to run the entire house network? If so, I'm assuming that the modem is down in the basement.
2. If that isn't the case, can you briefly describe the house network, including the modem, any switches, and where the switch connects to.
3. There is a user control on the 4582 in version 2.0.10.27 that allows you to enable/disable the ethernet ports on the back of the modem. I believe its the last tab to the right. Check that and ensure that all of the ports are enabled. I'm assuming here that you are running the modem in Gateway mode. Please let me know in the network description what mode the modem is operating in.
4. On the back of the modem are LEDs for the connected ports. With the remote device connected and running, those ports will be flashing amber for a 1 Gb/s port to port connection rate, or, flashing green for a 10/100 Mb/s port to port connection rate. Please check those to determine if the port LEDs are active. If so, then the remote devices are communicating with the modem. If so, its a question of why the devices don't have internet access.
Edit: If you have tested the house ethernet cabling with an ethernet tester and found that all of the cables are in working order for gigabit ethernet, please let me know. If you have never done that, or the company or individual who installed the cabling didn't do that, then that should be on the "to do" list to determine what condition that cabling is in.
