For those people who didn't notice that the .23 f/w that was pushed out has the ability to review all the ports on the back of the modem and you can enable them or disable them with a toggle switch and they all mention that they 1Gb ports enabled by default.

Anyone here from Malvern area or nearby?
I had a tech visit me today. He told me he had just visited someone in that area with similar issue as mine (speed degradation issue).

Hi Dave , Do we have any updates on this ? I still could not view any updates on the firmware
Regards,

Hope all is well. Last night they enabled DOCSIS 3.1 and ever since then my connectivity is shotty at best. TX is fine but RX isn't. I went from 940Mbps down and 49Mbps up to 3Mbps Down...
I'm on call like yourself 24/7/365 as I am responsible for a Data Centre. (Some of that infrastruture is responsible for the Fire Departments (911, etc)) I require a stable internet connection... Not to mention my mother so I've loaded the house with Z-Wave/Zigbee devices. One of those devices is used to alert me when she needs help.
If there is anything I can do to help, please don't hesitate to ask. I'm a heavy user to say the least...
I heard .24 is a stable release 🙂

I've been asked to swap my working Hitron 3552 for a 4582. How can I guarentee to get the .24 update sameday / preferably within an hour of a swap, as I do remote support and require a stable connection.

You will have to swap your modem first then reach out to @RogersDave with your modems mac and serial number.
The time frame is anywhere from immediatly to up to 7 days for the firmware to be pushed. If dave isnt busy it could be right then if he is and it has to be added to the automated que, up to 7 days.

I'm not sure how I got the .24, but a few days ago I did call support and mention about the upload speeds and download that were cutting off other devices from the network if "top" speed was reached; i was getting an average of 700mbps down and 30 up on 1gbps plan. So I requested to see if maybe related to network congestion. Not sure if they did something but they escalated but I havent got a reponse yet.
For me .24 is way stable and even if i max out the down and up all the other users are still able to use the internet.

My recommendation would be not to swap it. Maybe your performance will go down when they shut down some D3.0 channels and deploy D3.1 (which the 3552 can't do), but if you are on gigabit and need a stable connection, I would not go with the 4582 right now. The .24 firmware is beta, and you'd need very lucky timing for @RogersDave to be able to get you .24 within an hour. And frankly, do you really want to be joining a beta firmware program? Once you're on the list, you could get new beta firmware with unknown bugs pushed to you in the middle of the day.
Note that it is fairly obvious that the Rogers team in charge of reaching out to gigabit subscribers to get them to swap out 3552s for 4582s is not aware of the troubles with the 4582, so they've been going full steam ahead on this.
I should add, finally, that lots of people (myself included) have had no issues with the 4582. Especially people on the 250 or lower plans. But there are enough reports of troubles that if you need stability, I would stay away for a few weeks...

I have to be honest... I've been on gigabit for ages without issues. To be fair, I even had the 4582 in December on DOCSIS 3.0. It wasn't until yesterday when they enabled DOCSIS 3.1 did I start having issues. Went from a stable good connection to an unusable connection. Even my smart home is having issues...

I'm 90% sure I've figured out a big part of the speed degredation problem:
The CODA-4582 modem is overheating
Even with firmware .24, speedtests during OFF PEAK hours would vary around 7-800Mbps, but would shoot back to over 900Mbps after a fresh reboot before degrading again shortly after. The results were never consistent when degraded, back to back tests could vary by as much as 50Mbps even though I was using the Rogers server on speedtest.net.
Ever since day one, I've felt a lot of heat radiating off the top of the modem. Yes I removed all the plastic wrap before plugging it in. I never gave much thought about the heat at first but considering how inconsistent the performance is, I wanted to experiment.
I placed a standard 120mm case fan on the top of the unit blowing down and shrouded the upper half of the modem on the sides to force the air to exhaust out the bottom half. Did a fresh reboot and now I'm getting consistent ~930Mbps downstream speedtests back to back during off peak hours. I've never been able to get such consistent speedtest results before and I've had the modem since December. On peak hours from ~9pm to 1am are still varying from 600-800Mbps since my node is oversaturated.

I don't believe my issues are related to heat. CGNM-3552 and CODA-4582 running on DOCSIS 3.0 had no issues sustaining 850Mbps down at any time of the day. My CODA 4582 throughout the past month was hitting between 880-960Mbps. After DOCSIS 3.1 I drops down to 0.3Mbps - 8Mbps. I can't even use this connection.... -
My device is in bridge mode so that could be the reason I'm not having heat issues. If the device was heat saturated a simple reboot wouldn't fix my issue. It's re-instantiated its connections... once the sync issue is hit… the device is dead in the water.

I'm rebooting hourly... this is just sad. I have to be honest I feel bad for @RogersDave since he appears to be the only networking engineer able to deploy the updated firmware. Hopefully he gets support soon...

@SeanMM I had a same experience like you. I was all mostly good with Docsis 3.0. Then as soon as they upgraded to Docsis 3.1, my internet was unusable.
I swapped the modem to blackdot. It still didn't fix the issue. In fact, I had to reboot it every hour. But it slowly started to sort itself out in 3rd day. Firmware .24 stabled it even more in 4th day.
Yesterday, the tech came. He swapped the modem again. I am now back to .13 waiting for .24. However, Internet speed is good so far (even though the experience is not). Getting 949/47 Mbps.
I think .24 will be good for you. That said, it could be a faulty modem or line as well.
Good luck

Thanks! I was 100% stable before... I just got .24 pushed out to me... I'm hoping she holds!
Thanks for your support

Does chromecast work fine with CODA, the previous model has had issues.
02-18-2017 12:21 PM
@slakster I'm assuming that your modem isn't in bridge mode? Were the chromecasts on 2.4 or 5ghz?
My modem is bridged and I've never had issues with my Chromecasts (I have 3 of them... two different versions)

There was an issue with the CGN3ACSMR and maybe the 3522 that caused Chromecasts not to work. I don't think it had anything to do with wifi, but rather something to do with the funky broadcasty things that the Chromecast use not being sent the way the Chromecast expects...
Obviously, only a gateway mode issue - on a bridged setup, broadcast packets would never get anywhere near the modem...

Hello @VivienM
I was just trying to give slakster a hand. I run my own internal DNS servers (primary and secondary) along with my own router. By disabling the gateway functionality (putting it into bridge mode) I don't typically have the same issues. I was trying to understand his setup.... connectivity issues vs network...
Maybe you can give him a hand 🙂
Did you try changing your DNS servers. The issue with the chromecast appears to be DNS related and would explain why I didn't see the issue. Have a look at this thread... seems like it worked for both CGN3/2
Hope it helps!
