Hi Community - I am having issue with LAN Port connectivity since it is connecting only on 100M not gigabit, As per my SmartTV specs it has gigabit connection. I am using CAT6 cable and light right beside LAN port back of the TV are Green and Orange, but Rogers CODA modem is showing it as 100M and light at the back of modem is green.

I spoke with tech support they are clueless, further earlier I was advise to swap with different CODA modem which I did but same issue. Other option was given to exchange it with Rogers Rocket modem.

Also, my laptop connects with Gigabit connection using CAT6 cable, but speedtest gives hardly 60M download and my WiFi AC has over 195M download speed.  Please advise if any of you have any idea how to fix these issues

Green= 100mb/s

Yellow=1000mb/s

It's very strange you only get 60mb/s using a wired connection. What brand Ethernet card is in the computer? Do you have the latest drivers installed?

Hi gp-se,

I have Acer laptop which has broadcomm 10/100/1000 GBE, I also have Hisense 55R6107 which has Gigabit LAN, but it connects only on 100M, Rogers tech support has spent time to resolve but they are clueless at this time, unless Rogers buy same TV to test their modem's.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. The modem is running in bridge mode and our ASA gets the public IP via DHCP.

I don't have much exposure to NAT-T as we never had the requirement to run IPSEC over a PAT device. Based on Cisco online documentation, enabling NAT-T first checks end to end if there is a NAT device along the path. It only uses encapsulated the ESP packet over UDP 4500 only if a NAT device is found along the transit path which we do not have.  UDP is connectionless, so I don't know what other impact it will have on the network. I need to do more research on this.

Few questions:

1. Are there modems that support 1G throughput that are not affected by ipsec slowness due to the intel chip?

2. Do Hitron post figures (or data sheets) about their ipsec (ESP) throughput on these modem? If we aren't hitting the maximum throughput tested by the Vendor, it may be something else contributing to the problem.

Rogers currently does not have any non Intel based cable modem so that is not an option.

Regarding the figures, no they don't but based on the speeds you are posting, it really looks like the traffic is not using hardware acceleration.

Based on your comments, it raises another questio. Is this traffic UDP based (Eth/IP/UDP) - RFC3948 or straight ESP (Eth/IP/ESP)? If don't see why the modem would have a hard time handling UDP encapsulated IPSec but I can understand why ESP would be broken.

--Dave

If you use IPv6, normal ESP packets pass through fine. IPv4 NAT detection is often buggy and gets triggered when it shouldn't.

Not sure this is the correct spot:

Just got a Hitron new white tower 4582 modem - looks nice, seems to work great so far.  My CGN was flaky so when I renewed service mix, they gave me this one - I am on 75D with 500 GB cap.

I was hoping to do as I had with the CGN and plug my portable 4 TB 3.0 drive in and use it and was happy to hear that USB was 3.0 compatible so could take full advantage of the drive - CGN was 2.0

Well, set up the drive, it showed up fine, mapped it fine - after remembering that the recommended drive map is wrong in the Hitron modems - somebody doesn't know their network mapping and directory network naming very well - backward slashes \ not forward//.

Well worked great, got access from all my devices and mapped.

Decided to unplug it and try plug it into my laptop (it is only 2.0 usb).  When I went back to the modem, the drive no longer is detected - it is powered and running but not detected.

2 other usb2.0 drives detected ok, and a couple of usb sticks, but not the 3.0  One time only.

Anybody have any success at dealing with this - I know the USB port for NAS on the Hitron routers have been flaky from day one and Shaw still turns them off and it was rumored that Rogers turned them off for a while, but do not support them because they are not reliable, and not part of their support framework.

Any ideas - I don't really care - maybe someday they will get this modem stable and get all feature sets running properly.

Thanks in advance, Bruce

I'm also having issues getting any drive to show up as detected. Not sure what the issue is.

So any thoughts on this feature that is clearly described in documentation of this modem, but appears to not be supported by Rogers.

Will it ever be set up to work reliably, or is it not a priority.

If not a priority, why not just do as Shaw did, turn it off and just say Rogers does not support it.

Then I will be one step further to just replacing my failed router and getting one that supports fully NAS USB ports.

So, any of the techy people no what is going on with this feature?

@BS, there is a post here somewhere from Dave which indicated that USB2 drives work, but USB3s don't.  I don't remember the exact details of the post but I believe that Dave indicated this was an issue for Intel to sort out, so, there won't be an immediate fix.

Re: Rogers Hitron CODA-4582 Hardware

Hello, @BS

I have located @RogersDave post @Datalink was referring to, he was elaborating on the .31 firmware release.  The post is in Firmware Feedback thread, below are the relevant details from that post;

"There is still an open item with Intel (the problem is on their side) with support of USB3 devices. A USB2 drive should work correctly."

Cheers,

RogersMoin

Re: Rogers Hitron CODA-4582 Hardware

Thanks everybody for the update - that was back in July - guess it is not a huge priority - although it says USB 2 drives will work, my usb2 drive with external power connection isn't detected, any of them.

The flash drives are detected, so instead, I just moved back to my old faithful - plugged it into a spare computer, leave it running and share and map the drive.

Hopefully it comes at some point.  Would prefer to be running a computer just for connecting a laptop when the router is designed to be a NAS as per Hitron documentation.

But one step at a time I guess - got to get things steady and ready on Docsis 3.0 and ready for Comcast X rollout, and making sure that really important things like stable WIFI, upload speeds, and latency and gaming stability, all of which have been worked on.

It is unfortunate that we the users got stuck in the middle of a mess with Intel Puma chips, Hitron designs, and probably a contractual commitment to the Hitron line. Glad that everyone involved is taking a very committed beta testing process to move this forward, because there has been no shortage of issues with the Hitron modems from day one.

Unfortunately, it is we the consumer that have to live with it.  thanks for the information and glad that you found it and that hopefully it still is sitting on a to do list somewhere with the engineers, which I am sure it is.

Hi,

@RogersDave@Datalink@CommunityHelps

I had a senior tech come out yesterday evening to install a new drop/buried line to the house and cse box. About 30 minutes after he left, my speeds dropped to 0.02 Mbps down. Basically, I was unable to do much of anything. Called support, and they were unable to see my modem online. I was advised to do a modem swap. Rebooted modem. Worked fine for about 30 minutes, and then the same problem occurred. Then I went down in the basement and unscrewed a coaxial connector and screwed it back together. This morning download/upload speeds seems fine. But I'm wondering if it's still a good idea for me to do a modem swap. I haven't been keeping up to date if there's a newer CODA-4582 hardware version than the one I'm using. Mine has a black dot on the back and is hardware version 1A.

Thanks in advance for recommendations on how to proceed.

I've been around

Hi, I recently switched to Rogers and was issued a Hitron CODA-4852 modem.

I have a home network, with multiple devices including 2 NAS setups for media and files. I use two routers internally, with one setup as DHCP server. My home office and home theater is setup using wired ethernet. Before I I switched to Rogers this worked fine for years with no issues at all.

However, with the CODA in bridge mode, none of the wired connections work anymore.

Can anyone tell me what the issue is?

CODA sits next to a Linksys router that acts as DHCP server internally in. This is in my basement. A wired connection runs to a wireless router in one of my bedrooms, which is the main wireless access point all the wifi devices use. That does work.

None of the other wired connections from the router in the basement work however.

At a loss...

So I got a letter in the mail stating I had to upgrade my CGN3 modem. Yesterday I took the CGN3 to the store, and was given a CODA4582. Take it home, plug it in, and wait. The upload and download lights both come on, but no connection (@) light. Got ahold of tech support, and was told they couldn't see the modem on their end, and that it could take up to 4 hours to be "provisioned". 18 hours later and still no internet. Has anyone else had this experience? How long did it take to be resolved? Heading into a long weekend with no internet and three kids and a mother in law who are cranky about it doesn't sound fun.

Lately it has been taking a long time to provision some modems, it used to be instant months ago. More and more I hear of people having it take 24 hours or longer to provision. I suggest you send a PM to @CommunityHelps asking them to look into the provision process.

@ajesh

The first thing I would do is factory reset the CODA, then set it to bridge mode. After that connect the LAN cable from Port 1 on the CODA to the WAN port of your Linksys Router. Login to the Linksys and ensure it's receiving a public IP address from the CODA. If it is then set it to act as a router and hand out DHCP address's, then plug your wired devices into the Linksys and it should work.

The SNR is 4 on some channels, that is a major issue! SNR should be between 32-40 db. The fact that you unscrewed and re-screwed the coax and it made a difference leads me to believe you may have some connector issues. I would suggest contacting Rogers and ask them to check your signal levels, they should see an issue right away since your SNR is at 4 on certain channels. Hopefully they send a tech out to check all the connectors/cables.

Yeah, the SNR 4 is associated with 64QAM. They're sending a tech out on Monday.

@ajesh, here's a couple of other items:

1.  Have a look at the back of the modem, specifically the connected port LED.   If that port is connected to a Gb/s device port, the LED will be flashing amber, if the connected port is a 10/100 Mb/s port, it will be flashing green.  Those colours appear to be reversed when compared to the industry standard.  The presence of the flashing LED will tell you that the modem and the router are in fact communicating with each other.  If the port remains dark, then there is either a cable issue, or, the cable isn't connecting properly at either end, or perhaps there is a port issue on the modem itself.

2.  Given that your arriving from another ISP, run a factory reset on the Linksys router with the modem connected to router.  That will wipe out any previous settings used for the previous modem and should result in the router operating in a dynamic IP (Auto) mode where it should pick up the assigned IP addresses from the modem.  Note that Rogers uses Native IPV6, so, you may have additional settings to complete if you want to use IPV6.  In theory you shouldn't have to run a factory reset on the router, it should all be plug and play, but, from what we've seen in practice, that router reset usually clears up the initial connection issue.

@Webslinger I should've said this earlier but the 4.191 SNR value is an interface bug. I have noticed that problem occur with my modem a couple of times and rebooting the modem have always fixed the problem for me. Try rebooting the modem and the values should go up where they should be.

Perhaps, momentarily. Doesn't explain why my speeds drop to 0.02 Mbps down after about an hour after a reboot over an ethernet cable connection directly from the modem. I'm not convinced that's an interface bug for me.

Thanks. Any difference may have been coincidental. Every time I reboot the modem now, I experience severe slowdowns about an hour after rebooting.
