Hi @RogersDave just wondering if I will have to swap my  CODA 4582(black dot version?  Seems ok for now but it seems you never know right now.

Thanks

If you're connected to the modem VIA ethernet try restarting your computer, but if that doesn't work then try rebooting the modem by removing the power cord, wait 30 seconds, and plug the power back in. If that doesn't solve your issue then you can post your downstream  and upstream signal levels so we can determine if you are having any signal issues that are bottlenecking your speeds.

Re: Rogers Hitron CODA-4582 Hardware

So Happy I have found this website I am losing my mind.

So about ten days ok my internet stopped working. I had got the new white router from rogers a few weeks previously and it had been working great. So all last week I had no internet or extremely slow. So i rang rogers Thursday and they said there had been a recall of the white routers and to go back and get the one with the black dot. I got that and it worked fine for the first hour then it went straight back to none existent speeds. I only get internet if I restart the router and it lasts for about a half hour to an hour then gone again. I returned the router and got a new one again ...and same thing....is this the issue people are running into ?

how do I know if my modem is affected with interference? Do I need to exhange it?

My average speed is between 150-200mbps same as the previous modem, non-CODA, Rogers said it might be due to congestion in my area, Yonge/Finch. I think I'm already in 3.1 since the download LED (purple or light blue) has different color than upload LED (blue)

Thanks

Your modem is not affected by interference because you have all 32 downstream channels up and running. Also, if we take a look at your downstream signal strengths, they are near 0 which means that they are unaffected by interference. Smiley Happy You would start to see problems if your downstream signal strength is below -10dBmV or greater than +10dBmV.

Hey @RogersDave,

Quick question. Ever since I got upgraded to D3.1 earlier this week, I see this in my D3.0 downstreams channel:

Notice how 17-24 are 64QAM, and duplicates of other channels.

Is this normal? I don't think it's affecting anything, just looks weird...

@VivienM, This is clearly a bug in the GUI. These channels should have been "missing". In any case, I checked with a remote test and your modem is affected by interference and will required a swap. With 3.1 enabled, you may not see much impact but for best results, it should be done at some point.

Thanks @RogersDave

To be honest, I'm a little reluctant to swap this modem because I've had so much better luck than most on this forum with it.

Any thoughts on why I can get 330/22 megabits/sec speedtests (wired, bridge mode) no problem despite having the interference issue? Including on D3.0, which I was running until last week? Could it be that I am okay because I only have the 250 megabit package, but I'd run into trouble trying to do gigabit? Or, to the extent wifi has anything to do with it, my access point is maybe 1m away from the modem, but it's primarily doing 5GHz - yes, 2.4 is enabled, but only for a kobo and some logitech harmony hubs.

In any event, if it's okay with you, I think I'll swap it out in a month or two - might as well wait for things to settle down with the black dot modems before replacing one that works just fine?

@Vikentieff, I honesly have no idea but will surely report this to Hitron. I have seen a couple of reports lately on this but it is definately not everybody however for the customers affected, it seems to be systematic and occur on a reguar basis.

@14N, I ran a test from the network as well and don't see any interference impact to your modem.

@VivienM, you can definitely keep your modem for now. What happens is that when there is interference issues, some channels become unusable. Each channel can provide about 38 Mbps of capacity (shared with all users). This means that technically you need working channels to get 330 Mbps.

The reality is that these channels are all being used by others as well so as load increase on these channels, you need more channels to reach your peak speed of 330 Mbps. Your modem is currently operating like a 24 channel modem so it can in the current conditions offer you top speeds without issues. If you with to switch to Gigabit however, it would be a different story.

Now with DOCSIS 3.1, there is even more capacity so I doubt you will see any impact at all. I would still recommend replacing your modem at some point but there is no rush in doing so.

Thanks, and just to follow up - mine went into a reboot as "scheduled" around 2:30AM EST today. At any rate, I'm sure there are other people with the same issue, but they don't know it, as the reboot is usually fast, faster than previous modems, and most people are not using the net that late at night.  I can PM you the DOCSIS Log if necessary too.

For the last few weeks I've had to reboot the modem atleast once a day, checking the logs I see the following constantly crop up:

No. Time Type Priority Event

Rebooting immediately resolves the issues, and the speeds are excellent for a few hours, then start degrading.

Contacting support, they've decided to send a tech out as they felt my signal levels were out of spec, but to me they look fine:

Re: Rogers Hitron CODA-4582 Hardware

You're missing a number of downstream channels which is indicative of one of the original batch of CODA-4582s. The recent modified version which has a black dot on the packing box and near the power cord on the modem has additional shielding over the Docsis Tuner, to prevent interference from the 2.4 Ghz wifi.  Just from the look of the downstream channels, that alone is reason to swap the modem for one of the modified modems.

@RogersDave what's the ETA for the .21 f/w for non-beta testers?

You will know you are on DOCSIS 3.1 based on the colour of the downlink light in front of your modem. Blue (same as uplink) is DOCSIS 3.0. Light-blue is DOCSIS 3.1.

Firmare 2.0.10.21 will enter start final certification phase mid-february. This should bring us to a deployment, early March. That is the plan of record but because this firmware contains critical fixes, there may be an interim firmware before that (which would shift the version numbers and would make the early March firmware 2.0.10.22).

For participants in the firmware trial program, I will push 2.0.10.21T1 probably this week.

Dave

@RogersDave, looking at the release notes I see it includes some configuration additions for the IPv6 Firewall, does this mean that we'll have to wait for this firmware to go GA to get IPv6 on this modem? you once mentioned you were looking into a possible workaround to bring it sooner, hows that looking?

Also, question about 3.1: When you guys enable 3.1 on a node / CTMS, do you do any other changes like capacity increase to the node or anything like that which would also improve the upload speed quality? or uploads will not improve at all until 3.1 is implemented for it?

Thanks!

@nineiron, the problems with accessing Samba shares are supposed to be all fixed in 2.0.10.21 (and the beta candidate 2.0.10.21T1). I have not tested it however so hopefully firmware trial participants will be able to confirm once I load the firmware to them.

If you want to register for the trial program, you can send a private message to @CommunityHelps with your modem MAC address and serial number.

@Lumute, No this firmware is not a requirement for IPv6. I am still working on the workaround but a lot of it is not in my hands right now. Nevertheless, I'll try to get an update from the team.

DOCSIS 3.1 provides a major capacity increase but strictly on the downlink. For uplink, we are working on a different strategy right now alongside with the deployment of DOCSIS 3.1 on the uplink which will come at some point in 2017.

Okay, so I have a theory, @RogersDave. Before the D3.1 deployment, I understand from your posts that there were more than 32 D3.0 channels. So, my modem was able to tune 32 channels and it was happy. The interference problem might have been affecting other channels but that didn't matter if I had 32 good ones.

Then some of those channels were turned off to make room for D3.1. There are 32 (or more) channels remaining, but at least 7-8 of those are on frequencies where the interference issues arises. So, the modem only tunes 25 or whatever (and then a software bug causes the 64QAM incorrect display).

By reducing the number of channels, this could reduce peak speed on D3.0 (depending on the congestion on these 25 channels)... but since I'm on D3.1 now and only trying to do 250 megabits, then it works perfectly fine.

I'll replace the modem in a month or two, don't worry 🙂

Hi @RogersDave  - i'm on the CODA-4582 black dot f/w 19.  I'm definitely seeing latency and speed issues and it gets resolved by a reboot.  If I plug in a router to assign IP addresses and disable Wifi on the CODA, should that resolve the issues with the latency/speed issues?

Why dont you set the modem to bridge mode and use the other router as  your primary device?
