Hello Community,

We are currently offering our users an exclusive opportunity to participate in an upcoming trial of the new firmware for our Rocket Wi-Fi Modem (CGN3ACR, CGN3AMR and CGN3ACSMR) and Rocket Gigabit Wi-Fi Modem (CGN3552 and CODA-4582). For details of this program, please see this thread.

This thread will be used for feedback regarding the firmware.  We've invited @RogersSergio@RogersSyd & @RogersBob from our Networking team to participate in this thread.  Your feedback is very valuable and will be used to enhance the firmware before it is released publicly.

Thank you for your continued feedback and support.

Re: FEEDBACK - Rogers Rocket Wi-Fi Modem Firmware Trial

Hello Community,

Just wanted to provide some clarification. We verified with our product team and the short answer, there is no difference between the single black dot CODA modem and the two black dots.

Cheers Smiley Happy,

RogersCilio

Re: FEEDBACK - Rogers Rocket Wi-Fi Modem Firmware Trial

Just another choice when one ventures to the nearest Rogers store in seach of a modem, "Will that be one dot or two?"

I'd like to have the one with 2 dots please, 2 dots = 2x the speed!

In all seriousness,  why would they put a second sticker on the modem even if it's the same as the first version?

Re: FEEDBACK - Rogers Rocket Wi-Fi Modem Firmware Trial

I'm sure that Dave will let us know the real reason behind it, perhaps additional testing prior to release?  Just speculating.

Re: FEEDBACK - Rogers Rocket Wi-Fi Modem Firmware Trial

@WestPoint, the modems with .13 coming out of the warehouse will be rather problematic for a little while.  That is one of the reasons why IPV6 is not enabled for the 4582s.  Ideally, at least to me, the modem would be delivered with the current version, or, there would be an immediate update when the modem goes live.  You are correct in your observation that moving from .13 to .19 doesn't resolve the DOCSIS 3.1 performance issue, however, it simply isn't possible to address everything all at once.  This must have risen to the top of the heap pretty quickly to get all companies involved.

In the sequence of events, here's what I think has transpired to date.  .19 was released and running, then along comes DOCSIS 3.1 enabling, causing great consternation and hand wringing.  Rogers, Hitron and Intel create .24 which solves the poor DOCSIS 3.1 performance, but, for now, it is still a test version until all of the sign-offs are complete.  This situation presents problems for users in and around Toronto where DOCSIS 3.1 is enabled as .19 is still the production firmware version.  Hopefully this will be resolved this week if .24 is approved as the next production version.  That leaves users to get thru the jump from .13 to .24 which will take 24 to 48 hours to occur after the modem goes online.  Maybe not ideal, but a shorter time span which will disappear when the warehouse modems are delivered with .24 or beyond.

@WestPoint

I've had my modem since mid December, my issues didn't start happening until they decided to enable DOCSIS 3.1.  After that my modem was useless to say the least.  Performance issues happened within minutes not hours...

Prior to DOCSIS 3.1 being enabled my modem was actually stable and the speeds were good.  With 2.0.10.24 and DOCSIS 3.1 enabled I'm fine assuming that they don't revert me back again, since its difficult to get a hold of @RogersDave

If your having performance issues with 2.0.10.24 and on the 250Mbps package, I would really have Rogers look at your levels, your neighbourhood, tap, and SHUB.   @fearless90 and I both have the same internet package and work together.  Both of our issues were addressed with 2.0.10.24, but both of our modems are in bridge mode.

2.0.10.19 with DOCSIS enabled would work fine for the first 20minutes for me... after that it was downhill quickly.

Wish I could help more 😞

CODA 4582   1A  2.0.10.24

I managed to recreate my wireless MAC address access list issue.  I whitelist all wireless devices on my network because my son found a utility to randomize his wireless interface MAC address.  If he wants to match wits with his Network Architect dad, so be it.  He will, obviously, always lose! 🙂

So when saving more than 8 in the list, the modem GUI is no longer responsive.  The modem/router still passes traffic, but I will need to reboot if I want to login to the GUI again.

Update:  More serious than I thought.  I will need to pin reset as I couldn't get back in after power reboot.

Was there a recall on the .24 firmware? I got .24 on Monday, and I was just downgraded to .19 this morning.

I plan to stick around

Most of people coming to this forum have issues using Rogers Internet service. Someone reading this forum may came to conclusion that Rogers Internet is nothing but problems 😉

My experience is not so bad. I was on original CGN3 modem for few years without major issues. On my old Internet plan I was getting over 200Mbps consistent download speeds using "speedtest.net" New York servers. This year in January I bought new Dell XPS13 laptop and start having issues with router radio shutting completely off on the wireless connection to the laptop. Chat with rogers tech. support pointed to defective modem. He recommended getting CGN3ACR as reliable option.

The day I was ready to do the swap the CGN3ACR's were out of stock. Calling Rogers customer service got me an offer of latest 1Gb modem since CGN3ACR was not available. I thought this better be good. I'll be on Ignite 100u plan with Gigabit Modem 🙂

New modem brought new problems 😞 Radio with AC was on but the wireless connection to SMB network drive would lock up my computers. Research on this issue and possible firmware updates brought me here to this forum.

I'm on DOCSIS 3.1 for almost 2 weeks now and firmware .24. No bridge mode, nothing in between modem and my network to slow things down 😉 I have zero issues. Modem is up and running for over 6 days now without reboot. My speeds on 100 account are up to the limit. I'm getting instant 180Mbs for the first second (speed boost) and 130 steady for the rest of the test to most of the servers around North America.

Digital Ocean Tor.PNG
I contacted @CommunityHelps to get complimentary 1Gbps account for couple of days to test the speeds but that didn't go with them very well ;(

My cable connection to Rogers community street green box is very short in front of my house. Underground cable to my basement (20 years old) is only 60' long. Next I have one single splitter (1 in 2 out) installed by Rogers tech. 10 years ago. One cable to PVR and one direct to the modem. Cable connected to modem is around 25' long inside of the wall. Wall receptacle with coupling in the faceplate and 3' cable to the modem.

For everybody that has poor signal and related issues. You should do a simple test yourself to see if you have house wiring related issue. I had this issue last year when modem started to drop connection and was looking for channels (down / up arrows blinking).

You could use any Canadian Tire or similar multi-meter.

1. Set the multi-meter to 20M Ohms scale or larger (autoranging meters will do it automatically when Ohms selected). Meter should read "1 .      " or similar (infinity). Cross the meter leads and you should read 0.00. Disconnect the cable from the modem and from the splitter. Test the cable resistance. Touch the centre pin and hex nut. Don't short the meter leads with your fingers. You should read 0.00 MOhm. The cable is not connected at this point and it should be completely open. If you see any reading you need to investigate your wiring. Coupling at the wall plate would be the first stop. Any suspicious connectors at the end of the cables have to be replaced until open cable resistance is 0.

2. For this test you need piece of old antenna TV cable or thin solid wire or last resource paper clip. Cut the old antenna cable short about 3" from the end. Strip and join centre pin with the shield (make it a short circuit). Cable coupling with with wire or paper clip works as well. Connect this piece to one of the ends of modem cable at splitter or modem end. Set your multi-meter to the lowest scale 200 Ohms. You should see "1   .    " on the display. Cross meter leads. You should see fraction of an Ohm 0.3 to 0.7. If the meter reads more readjust the meter until you do see fraction of an Ohm (turn dial few times pull the lids out and in few times out of meter sockets). Test the cable resistance. You should see something around 2 to 5 Ohms. It will vary with with cable length and type.

IMG_0127 (800x726).jpg

3. Disconnect cable splitter and install straight coupling between modem cable and the street. Connect the modem and test signals again.

If all tests are OK and signals are low then it's time to call Rogers service to get their side fixed.

@RogersCilio, if the single black dot and double black dot modems are the same, then what's the reason for adding the 2nd black dot to the newest batch of modems?
