Hello Community,

We are currently offering our users an exclusive opportunity to participate in an upcoming trial of the new firmware for our Rocket Wi-Fi Modem (CGN3ACR, CGN3AMR and CGN3ACSMR) and Rocket Gigabit Wi-Fi Modem (CGN3552 and CODA-4582). For details of this program, please see this thread.

This thread will be used for feedback regarding the firmware.  We've invited @RogersSergio@RogersSyd & @RogersBob from our Networking team to participate in this thread.  Your feedback is very valuable and will be used to enhance the firmware before it is released publicly.

Thank you for your continued feedback and support.

I too have been experiencing UDP packet loss especially on VOIP and many of the games I play. @RogersDave is this an issue that you or Hitron/Intel are aware about?

I suspected that my gaming issues were probably UDP relatyed as well.

I suspect the same thing, can't wait for an answer 😄

I've had to swap a few of these modems and I can confirm all of them were impacted by the UDP issue aswell. I really hope that this issue is put on high priority so it can be fixed ASAP.

Let's hope UDP is a quick fix, and not something bigger than we think.

So it seems that .19 for the CODA was pushed to my modem overnight.

I just did a factory reset an hour or so ago, and noticed I was getting a lot of packet loss in Overwatch.

Pingplotter is showing me, yes, a lot of packet loss as well.

I can confirm that there was little to no packet loss past my router before this. Doesn't seem to have affected latency or speeds negatively or positively.

@RogersDaveCan I ask you to look  and see if my neighbourhood is 'upgraded' for gigabit? Or if the node is congested? It's been hard for me to get good speeds even direct to modem.

Cheers,

@NBomb if you've been running speeds over 500 Mb/s at any time, then the CMTS has been upgraded to a Casa Systems CMTS which supports gigabit rates. You can also log into your modem, navigate to the STATUS ...... DOCSIS EVENT page and have a look for the following sequence:

a. CMTS-MAC=00:17:10:XX:XX:XX which indicates that you are connected to a Casa Systems Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) which supports gigabit rates.

Re: FEEDBACK - Rogers Rocket Wi-Fi Modem Firmware Trial

why do I keep on getting packet loss when running test on pingplotter on hop1 then I start getting packet loss on other hops ever since the 27 update. Is there a way and see if there's something going on in my area or hub or modem I have the acsmr

@lethalsniper

There could very well be issues on the network.  I have some network slowdowns and called rogers support last night.  They ran some tests in my neighbourhood and determined that there is high latency and packet losses and opened a ticket with engineering to investigate.

Thanks man, yeah it seems to be a Casa.

My packet loss also seems to be largely cured after a reboot. So odd. Still curious about congestion though. The speed tests are so inconsistent!

Re: FEEDBACK - Rogers Rocket Wi-Fi Modem Firmware Trial

Everytime I call Rogers support they tell me everything is fine but when I speak to a higher tech they tell me something else that's why I don't bother call them I rather have @RogersDave take a look if he can thanks.

I'm here a lot

@RogersDave @Datalink For about a week now I hear Tier 2 for Internet is pushing a .20 firmware for the CODA modems upon request. Can we get a change log for this new version? It's not posted on the firmware post.

Hi @reeets,

As I mentionned in my post 2 days ago, we have received the firmware 2.0.10.20 for the CODA modem on January 3rd. We are currently running internal testing and I'm planning on deploying to trial participants next week (provided it passes initial sanity checks).

I will also update the change logs as soon as I have all the details. Since this firmware was built over the holidays, I'm missing some pieces of information that I'm chasing down.

I also checked and couldn't find any customer with that version running. Only a few modems in our lab have it at this point.

Just replying to my previous post: seems as though something has changed Thursday morning and my packet loss is back to normal. Speeds are also much much better. @RogersDave any idea what could have caused this?

(pink is packet loss, green is normal)

Re: FEEDBACK - Rogers Rocket Wi-Fi Modem Firmware Trial

@RogersDave My apologies, I don't see a post from you on Tuesday on this thread. I sent you a private message about it.

@JohnyR

I opened a ticket for rogers to look at Packet Losses and Latency in my area (see comment 1833). I doubt it would extend to you but there could have been tickets opened that accelerated the fix to the problem.

Hi @JohnyR,

I have observed exactly the same behavior when I upgraded my modem to firmware 2.0.10.20 for testing. The problem cleared away by downgrading to 2.0.10.19. However, when trying to reproduce this manually (running pings), even at small ping interval, it couldn't miss any packet.

If you see this behavior again in SmokePing, can you check if you can reproduce it manually?

Re: FEEDBACK - Rogers Rocket Wi-Fi Modem Firmware Trial

In order to handle CODA-4582 improvements and issues, I have started a new thread where I'll post all the specifics and open issues.

CODA-4582 - Open Issues for Investigation

I will continue to monitor this thread but will keep everything organized together.

Hmm, the interesting thing is that I had you upgrade my modem from 14 to 19 during that packet loss period. The upgrade didn't help relieve the PL shown in Smokeping.

If it happens again, I will try to reproduce it manually. Just as a side note, my smokeping is setup to run a burst of 3 pings every 3 seconds.

I'm here a lot

When will the CODA be available for 100u users? I asked my local store yesterday and they told me that only people with the gigabit plan are allowed to switch to the CODA.

Re: FEEDBACK - Rogers Rocket Wi-Fi Modem Firmware Trial

@lethalsniper your signal levels are ok.  I'd like to see the higher downstream signal levels a little lower than what they currently are, but they shouldn't cause any problems.  The signal to noise ratios are ok as are the upstream signal levels.
