Hello Community,

We are currently offering our users an exclusive opportunity to participate in an upcoming trial of the new firmware for our Rocket Wi-Fi Modem (CGN3ACR, CGN3AMR and CGN3ACSMR) and Rocket Gigabit Wi-Fi Modem (CGN3552 and CODA-4582). For details of this program, please see this thread.

This thread will be used for feedback regarding the firmware.  We've invited @RogersSergio@RogersSyd & @RogersBob from our Networking team to participate in this thread.  Your feedback is very valuable and will be used to enhance the firmware before it is released publicly.

Thank you for your continued feedback and support.

Re: FEEDBACK - Rogers Rocket Wi-Fi Modem Firmware Trial

Hello Community!

Some updates on the Hitron AC series firmware. We have been struggling a lot with the last couple of firmwares with WiFi stability. All these issues have been investigated and replicated by Hitron.

I am suppose to receive early next week a new build (4.5.8.32) that is "should" to address all these problems altogether and bring the long awaited latency improvement to Puma 6 devices across all AC series modem (including the CGNM3552). I say should because until I test it myself and get feedback from the community, I am cautious to declare victory.

I still have the list of firmware trial participants that wanted to receive the firmware 4.5.8.31 first and I'll use the same list for 4.5.8.32. Once I have some positive feedback, I'll push it to all participants.

That is also why some of you have requested to participate in the trial but haven't received a firmware yet. I am waiting to make sure that 4.5.8.32 is a suitable candidate and bring everybody to the same version.

Dave

Firmware version 4.5.8.30T1 introduced serious slowdowns to my connection, including more frequent ping spikes/disconnects when playing HoTS.

I'm back on 4.5.8.27. Looking forward to trying out the new firmware Dave.

Just tried. Changed it to forever and reset the router and ecobee and still the same issue, it doesn't seem to get a connection to the network.

@azar1 Try and set the IP address to static instead of DHCP and see if that helps with the ecobee.

I just checked the firmware on my CODA-4582 (no black dot) and it's still on .27. Is the .30 firmware supposed to have been pushed automatically when the router resets?

@geokilla007 Unfortunately Dave is not pushing the firmware to anymore due to issues on .30 that were mentioned on the forums. It is best to stay on firmware 2.0.10.27 for now as it will give you the best experience.

Between now and the end of July Dave will get the next two firmwares for the CODA so stay tuned for that.

Now I'm more confused haha. Just checked my firmware and I'm on 2.0.10.28T2..

Should I get downgraded to .27?
I got one of the first new modems when they first got introduced, I was told there's two different versions?

I've been here awhile

I Seriously Need to Have My CGNM-3552 (HW_VER:1A) to the newest Firmware (Currently Running 4.5.8.27)

Who Knows, I Might Ask Rogers if i am eligible for a newer Modem ...

Re: FEEDBACK - Rogers Rocket Wi-Fi Modem Firmware Trial

I just upgraded a few modems to version 4.5.8.32. Once I get some feedback on this version, I will proceed with additional deployments.

@azar1 If you aren't having issues with .28T2 I'd say stay on the firmware. If not, you can reset the modem and it will be back on the .27 version.

With regards to your modem version, if you aren't having any speed issues I wouldn't really worry about it. The two versions of the CODA consist of one with a black dot and another with two black dots. There isn't any difference from the two versions- they both contain extra shielding to prevent interference issues. If you would like you can exchange your current modem with either versions to ensure that your modem isn't affected by interference issues in the future.

@JohnBeaudin It's a Q2 financial report being released at 8AM EST. I assumed that Rogers would announce their next modem then, but that's just my guess.

@User402 If you are on 100u and above, you are eligible for the CODA-4582.

I've just received firmware 4.5.8.32, now wifi is finally working with this firmware as it should be.  All seems good for now.  Saw the Moca option as disabled, should I enable it since I have Moca adapters already connected to equipment.

@aube you could in theory disconnect the first MoCA adapter you have connected to the modem and enable the modem's MoCA function.  But, you should only do that if the MoCA settings in the modem include the privacy settings that are included in the current MoCA adapters that you use.  In the current trial version for the CODA-4582, the MoCA function is available but the privacy settings have not been built into the firmware at this point.  Probably on the next version.

You should ensure that:

1.  The MoCA adapters are set to encrypt the data that exchanged between the adapters.

2.  That there is a MoCA filter on the cable that comes in from the street or utility pole to ensure that there is no MoCA data leakage outside of the home and to ensure that the there is no MoCA data  leakage from any of your neighbors into your home.

Just to note, the specs for the usual Antronix splitters that Rogers uses do not show any MoCA capability.  There is a powder coated amplifier that Rogers uses that is MoCA qualified, but its only qualified to 1.5 Ghz.  So, depending on what you have, splitter or amplifier, you might not be seeing the best results from the MoCA adapters and the splitter or amplifier might be the cause of the less than desirable results.

The modem is probably locked into the Extended D band, 1350 to 1675 MHz edge to edge, so, that is something else you would want to consider if you wanted to include the modem in your MoCA network.  Does that coincide with your current adapters?

There are 2 silver MoCa connected to both my modem and phone box and I think the technician put one outside too but I'm not sure but  for the settings, I think I'll leave it as it is because I'm not too well informed on this matter.IMG_20170718_141400.jpg

My CODA firmware just got downgraded from 2.0.10.29 to 2.0.10.28T2

What's happening?

The firmware 2.0.10.28T2 (which is simply a unbranded version of 2.0.10.27) is being slowly deployed on the network. For initial soaking (before mass deployment) a group of modems (typically 5000-10000) are picked randomly and upgraded to 2.0.10.28T2.

In that case, you were simply "unlucky" to be selected and it caused a downgrade for you. Perhaps you should buy a lottery ticket 🙂

I will put you back on 2.0.10.29.

Hi Dave,

I also appear to be a "lucky winner" having been dropped from .29 to .28T2.

Is there any real point in being put back to .29 with .32 just round the corner for testing?

If it's going to be a while, please could you revert me back to .29 as well?

Regards,

Z.
