Community Manager (Retired)

Hello Community,

We are currently offering our users an exclusive opportunity to participate in an upcoming trial of the new firmware for our Rocket Wi-Fi Modem (CGN3ACR, CGN3AMR and CGN3ACSMR) and Rocket Gigabit Wi-Fi Modem (CGN3552 and CODA-4582). For details of this program, please see this thread.

This thread will be used for feedback regarding the firmware.  We've invited @RogersSergio@RogersSyd & @RogersBob from our Networking team to participate in this thread.  Your feedback is very valuable and will be used to enhance the firmware before it is released publicly.

Thank you for your continued feedback and support.

@Datalink

I went and swapped out for a black dot CODA, still no change in the signal strength.   Did get the other missing channels.   Waiting for a tech to confirm visit since Rogers is having technical issues today with the scheduling software...LOL.

Before i had 3.1 in my area it would pick half from the 1-32 range and then pick from 50-62 ish but now its always the 1-32 channel id's and never anything out side of that range. I'm thinking if all the CODA's do it and become really popular wouldn't it create congestion if we all use only those channels and not be spread out?

To free up capacity on the system, when they deploy D3.1, they are removing some D3.0 channels (and reallocating that capacity to 3.1). This is why they are so eager to get gigabit customers away from the 3552s and on to the 4582s; there's just going to be less capacity on the D3.0 system once D3.1 is turned on.

I don't know for sure, but I suspect that if you have D3.1, while your 4582 may tune 32 D3.0 channels (or 24 if it's broken like mine), I don't think it will actually USE those 3.0 channels.

Over time, I suspect the number of D3.0 channels will even drop below 32...

one thing to note:

the rogers speedcheck site AND the rogers toronto server on speedtest.net are both reporting very low numbers to me

BUT on the telus speedtest server:

also another thing to note, I was getting about 400mbps for the longest time, couldn't figure it out why, my computer is clean as a whistle with no viruses ect hey for some reason my throughput was abysmal, the other day I booted into an ubuntu distro I have on a random hard drive and ran a couple tests and lowe and behold my full throughput was showing up (920+), so I formated my main windows 10 install and reinstalled all my programs av ect and I got my full line speed restored (the pic I uploaded above) now that I think of it it must have started after the win10 Anniversary Update since that OS I had since windows 10 came out and kept doing all the updates one by one on it so I think somewhere along the line some update/driver might have messed with it but now its all good! cant wait for 3.1 to be deployed though so I dont have as much of a fluctuation during peak hours but still amazing !! hope this block of text helps someone out try booting into a linux os and see if your speedtests match your windows side

Re: FEEDBACK - Rogers Rocket Wi-Fi Modem Firmware Trial

@jalalinator

Those are great speeds, have you logged into the modem to confirm it's only DOCSIS 3.0?

I  have to say, everything is working great here now... Clearly they found the issue in my area as nothing else changed on my end... Same modem (CODA w/ black dot), same FW (.23)..

And no matter what the time I get rock solid speeds... so clearly when Rogers get's their ducks in a row it is possible to have a proper gigabit network!

1.jpg

Well that was short lived... Everything was going great for about 5 days... yesterday and today the UL is down to 25-30 mbit...

It seems like they're limiting it though because the speed test snaps the needle up to the 25-30 mbit mark and it stays there... just like it did the last 5 days when it would snap and instantly go to 48-50 mbit... I never struggles like it did before.

Here's hoping they're still working on it.

What's really sad is I have DOCSIS 3.1 in my area but I can't get more than 500 Mbps on a gigabit connection.

Are you using Coda 4582 V1B ?

Rogers is possibly on 2nd blackdot modem replacement  after many issues with first shipment and perhaps now on V1B?

This is my second 4582 V1A, FW 2.0.10.13 and still running average 350/45
Intek replaced street to home cable to fix noise issue but could not help improve speed...they were able to get peak of 512 once last Sunday.

They have opened a ticket for Rogers to investigate if area is issue. Need to follow-up with Rogers...since it's been almost 3 days. Likely my area is not on 3.1 yet.....and not sure if I want to go on Beta program after reading several forums. Anyone know if Scarborough (Lawrence/Meadowvale) is on Docsis 3.1 yet?

My SignalNoise ratio is not as good others and also a channel 25 problem.

Also rogers quick setup no longer accepts special characters for password

Is anyone else having an issue with their upload speed during the day? Also, is anyone having issues dowloading games on Xb1 and cannot acheive higher speeds then 50Mbps average? I have the CODA-4582 with firmware 2.0.10.19 and all signal levels are fine.

Re: FEEDBACK - Rogers Rocket Wi-Fi Modem Firmware Trial

@jjdunn10 During peak hours I notice my upload will take a hit, congestion on the network is to blame.

At night/off peak I can hit 50mb/s, daytime is around 22-30mb/s

Any way I can escallate this? The office of the president said buzz off!

I'm a 250/20 user with a CGN3AMR. If I went to a Rogers store, would they be willing to give me a CODA modem? Just curious... I guess there is no benefit to doing so, but I'm honestly just getting sick of this CGN3AMR 🙂 Sure it might be a signal issue that is causing it to crash 2+ times a day and need a powercycle (tech supports says they see no signal issues, but they are sending a tech in next Thursday anyways to check), but after 6 months of issues with this CGN3AMR I kinda feel like trying something different, and willing to give the newer CODA a shot if Rogers will trade me w/o issues...

Probably not....since Hitron CODA modems are used for Gigabit plans.

CODA 4582 is the default modems for Gigabit, 250u and 100u plans , I have 250 and traded my CGN3ACR for a CODA 4582 in December.

cant wait for 3.1 so I can get just  a little more on the uplink xD

EDIT: did a quick number crunch and it seems as if my 995 is right on the edge of the theoretical maximum.. aww shucks

should I call and complain for my missing 0.555MB/s?????!?!?

Jalalinator...what CODA H/W Version 1A or 1B?.... S/W version 2.0.10.23? What's your service area?

I am on 1A and  2.0.10.19 (Docsis enabled).  Using Coda in Bridge mode with WRT3200ACM with Cat 7...did Hard Reset(Unplug Power Cable/Hold Reset/plug-in Power Cable..90Sec)...and reconfigured settings. Subsequently Power Cycled network (Modem, Router, Computer). However performance degraded...from around 350/45 to 90/25 after update. Now back around 350/43. Suspect Rogers servers in my area are not yet capable of handling Gigabit bandwidth...and I'll have to wait for answers until Level 2 gets back to me. We clearly are Rogers Beta customers for Gigabit at the moment. (Toronto/Scarborough-East)
