Coax Cord Replacement

saniclol
I've been around

Hi. I have a Rogers xfinity gateway (gen 2 i think) modem.

So i've had this one black coax cord for like 2-3 years now and recently for months now i've been having constant lag and spike issues (and as month go by this speed issue gets worse and worse).

I've constantly had to call for technicians to come over and try too fix the issue and even to this day nothing worked in the long run aside from the "lag" being gone but now just spiking (still just lag).

Everytime they've come over they made sure the cords and stuff outside the house were good to go.

But now when it comes to inside the house, this seems to be a different story and i don't completely understand why.

Context before going further about the coax cord: it's been bent for a long while now after trying to have it installed in the wall long ago.

Going back to the black coax cord i had for years, for months i had technicians come in and seem to ignore the cord and one of them i eventually told them "i think the cord might be faulty" and the technician told me "nothings wrong with it".

Another time i told a different technician "i don't think this cord is good and would prefer if you guys just replaced the cord" and the technician told me "I can't do that".

That was a while ago and i don't remember everything he said as to why he can't replace the cord, but it's so weird to me that i'm paying so much money for this service, and when something doesn't work properly and is asked to be replaced, the answer to the customer is "no".

Now recently in my current situation after having so many technicians over, fixing cords outside the house and even upgrading the internet making me pay even more money thinking it would solve my issue (it didn't lol), i'm still stuck with this issue where the internet speed is spiking constantly and people i live with are tired of the amount of times i tried and had tech support try and restart the modem just for nothing to be solved in the long run.

I thought it would just be an issue with games but this is even noticable by just web browsing.

My speeds would go 1500 then 1700 then spike to 1400 1100 then goes up to 1800 then spike down to 643 (this just happened LOL) then goes to 1100 and then 1600 and ends up saying "102of the plan speed is being used!"

I then started looking into this coax cord thing and came to understand that if there's something wrong with the cord, it CAN cause you lag/spike issues and it is a common problem.

I should have said this earlier but a few months ago when i had a technician try to help fix the lag issue, he went over to the socket where the coax cord is plugged into, undid the whole thing and put it back (Very Loose) and left. My spiking issues actually started from that point.

Like i think people may understand the difference between like just lag and lag spikes?

What i mean by lag and lag spikes is this:

lag = slow connection, now where near the download and upload you are to have

lag spike = speed is usually good, but then the connection slows down and for an uncertain amount of time have to deal with very slow connection causing you terrible lag , web browsing is slower and it's very noticable when playing games online.

But i had lag, and since that tech left, i started having lag spikes (tbh, if it wasn't for that, i think i'd actually be good now lol).

Anyway, the last thing i want to say about this is that i have a tech coming again soon and i don't know if this next tech person will replace the cord or not, so i finally end this on one question, what black coax cord can i buy for the rogers xfinity gateway gen 2 modem?

If your modem has good signal levels and you are not seeing an unacceptably large number of uncorrectable codewords errors in your stats, your patch cable is fine.

A Rogers tech can also set up test gear to test the connection from your wall plate to the pedestal.  If that it clean, it rules out any in-home issues, including your patch cable.

I have never found Rogers techs to be stingy with coax cables.  They can even make a custom length cable for you in seconds by crimping F connectors on bulk coax.  You can probably also still obtain replacement RG6 cables at no charge from your local Rogers store.
