Apple Watch (GPS + Cellular models) Activation

OK so the system is now live.  You should get a pop up asking if you'd like to update the carrier settings.  Click Yes

Then you go back to your watch app and 'setup cellular' is active.  I was able to get all the way to the 911 address screen but for some reason the 'continue' button is greyed out even when I enter my full address.  So not sure what's going on with that.  But I was able to get like 2 steps from the finish lol

I've been here awhile
I received a call back from Rogers today.
They had to run a credit check on my background.
My social insurance was incorrect on their system. That was quickly corrected and my watch is up and running with cellular!

they did the same with me this morning but it did not work for me

Re: Apple Watch (GPS + Cellular models) Activation

Yup.
I've been dealing with this . since Wednesday. I'm giving them until tomorrow to get this figured out. I bought my wife the Apple watch 3 for Christmas. Apple told me Rogers supported it. I called Rogers to activate it and they told me to give them 3 months...then 3 months, then they said they weren't going to support, to all of a sudden they are supporting it...well not really. So I've actually...well my wife has been waiting patiently. Now they just put me through . . I've spent about 7 hours on the phone, on chat, to no avail. Tech support called 4 times in the last 2 days, just to ask what step we were getting stuck at. What a waste of time.
Thing is...they're in the sack with Bell, so they win either way.

So my activated cellular plan still isn’t working on my watch. The watch still doesn’t recognize my smart watch plan

Got a call from tier 2 support today. A network specialist was helping me.

He disabled the WiFi calling option on my phone. That didn’t work.

Next step - unpair and re-pair phone. Nice 2 hour activity including setting up my watch again exactly how I like it. Did that work? NOPE. Same exact situation before. Rogers cellular plan shows as ‘not in use’ and I have the option to add another cellular plan to my watch (which obviously shouldn’t be possible since you can only have one smart watch line per watch and per iPhone)

The network specialist said if that doesn’t work my next step is to escalate this to the highest priority level. A last ditch effort he said might be to cancel my current Apple Watch line and start the process all over again.

I think I’ll have to use the cellular on my apple watch for about 12 hours a day to make up for the time and effort expended to get this thing up and running. Probably about 16 or so hours in so far.

Re: Apple Watch (GPS + Cellular models) Activation

It's like they have 4 steps
-Reset phone and watch
- Unpair and re-pair
- Reset network
- Disable wireless
After that...they're stumped.
When do the engineers get involved and the twits reading off a canned solution list get the boot?
I can hear them rustling the papers and looking for all the error codes and reading verbatim the solution.
So funny, its pathetic.

@nasa25, Yes, everything did appear as it should have in the watch app, I had to call in and get everthing reset, I apparently failed to register on the network, considering that hasn't happened to me before I have a sneaking suspicion it had to do with the watch line , but not being privy to the backend-who knows!!(above all Rogers themselves!).

At this point you should be screaming for a big credit on your bill, what you're going through with this is ridiculous and I surprised more people aren't dumping Rogers outright at this point.

@rflats771

I agree it’s getting out of hand. At the very least I’ll be requesting a one month service credit on my Apple Watch line because technically I’m paying for something I can’t use right now. The funny thing is I’ll be transferring my cellular connectivity over to my series 4 once it comes in. That should be another fun chapter in this saga.

Did you manage to get your cellular connectivity sorted out?

@nasa25, yuppers I did as I said had to call in and get everthing re-registered, watch was working last night too lol !! Sounds like going for 15 rounds with a bureaucratic Mike Tyson when you switch from the AW3 to the 4! Good luck is a tad too mild!

At this point the people who picked up a AW4 through Rogers shoild almost getting hefty discounts on the hardware as Rogers sold them something that doesn't work(except for a lucky few! One wonders if Rogers can get this e-sim mess figured out as it's projected that most phones will be e-sim only in the next couple of years.

@rflats771 lol good to hear you’re up and running. Enjoy the cellular connectivity.

I hope I can join the club soon!

no did the chat agent thing twice today went through all the routines reset the phone reboot the watch and phone, redid the credit thing which they said was outdated, checked the 911 address,

nothing worked so they give me a ticket number and said their technical people will get back to me the next few days.  What a joke.  Its like they are running some nickel and time company.  I will be seriously looking at switching to Telus once my wife gets back from vacation.

Oh my god I just made a massive mistake. Deleted my Rogers cellular profile from my watch and went through the activation process again. Everything worked but my cellular line went directly to NOT IN USE.

Now I have TWO Apple Watch cellular lines and zero active connections 😞

Something is defintely preventing me from accessing the network. That’s the only good thing about my screw up. Now I know that activating a line again won’t work. Something is just kicking my watch off the network right away.

Re: Apple Watch (GPS + Cellular models) Activation

Being one of the lucky ones to manage to activate the watch I must say the experience has been somewhat disappointing. Unless you are in a downtown core Rogers service is rather weak in places with my iPhone getting 1 bar LTE. The challenge with the watch is that when the iPhone shows 1 bar, the watch has no service, and when the iPhone shows two bars the watch shows 1 bar, and there is still very spotty data transfer. You really need to be in an area with solid 3 bars of service for the watch to function reliably. Unfortunately Rogers’ network has not been engineered to deliver this level of service. So for me, I can forget in relying on just the watch when I go for a run or a bike ride 😞

@nasa25 Ouch!!! But at least you have a little bit more insight as to what's up,

@rflats771

Yup that was the last ditch effort outlined by tech support. Delete the line and try to add another. Now I know that doesn’t work!

@Matt2004, That's my experience as well, I just switched to my watch and I have 2 "dots" where I have 4-5 bars on my phone.

Right after activating a new line on my Apple Watch it didn’t work. Went right to not in use. Then randomly I had cellular connectivity and everything worked perfectly for a good 5 minutes. Now it’s back to ‘not in use’ and no connectivity.

I can’t make this stuff up lol. Maybe that means the techs are closer to solving the problem. I just went from happiness back to sadness real quick.

I was in touch with Bell on switching over they are offering a pretty good deal lots of GB
It looks like they are not having any issues with the watch also looks like they have a superior network
