With the discussions continuing about the 70% increase to have additional entertainment boxes in your home.
When looking online for info about this Rogers states that for every tv a Ignite Entertainment box is required.
Then I went on Rogers Ignite TV tutorials which are on You Tube about many aspects of how to. It says that by downloading the Ignite TV app to mobile phone or IPad and follow the instructions so that your device connects to your wifi. Then tap the Chromecast symbol top right corner of your phone or IPad and you can watch live TV, schedule recordings, watch your recordings, browse networks, TV Guide on your big screen tv. Without additional boxes.
Now to do this your tv has to have built in Chromecast or you can purchase a Google Chromecast device from Best Buy or Staples $40 it will connect to your wifi, just follow the instructions and you can cast from the Rogers app to your TV.
We sent back our second box shortly after having Ignite installed on advice from the Rogers installer that day, save $120 +tax a year. ( extra box rental when signed on was $10 a month.
Rogers subscribers there are options and alternatives, save your money as Rogers will be glad to take it every month if you let them. Rogers needs to explain to their subscribers that there are alternatives. We have been doing this for nearly three years by casting to our second tv and has worked for us. Money in our pocket!

That's great if casting from a phone or tablet works for you. However, this is simply not an option for many people with physical or cognitive disabilities, who are completely unable to use technology, who cannot watch TV on anything other than a set-top box. They may be able to read and understand everything going on the news, but may have lost functionality in that part of the brain that allows them to associate channel 24 with CP24. They cannot enter channel numbers or use voice commands, nor can they use any functionality that has been offloaded onto apps. At best, some can turn the TV on and off, adjust the volume, and use channel up/down... but that's about it. They get totally messed up if they hit a channel that they are not subscribed to, or unintentionally press the "wrong" button on the remote that takes them to an unfamiliar screen. It may also be impossible for them to use an Ignite TV app on a streaming device, even if it existed.
And those are the people who also cannot afford $17/month for a set-top box.

So then I hope Rogers thinks very hard about this and offers people with disabilities an accessibility discount 30% off or a better offer if a second entertainment box is required that is going up 70% rental. It has been reported that there is nothing different with the boxes that would be installed today than the ones 2 years ago. Subscribers have brought up the addition of Disney + included to select plans ( we weren’t included with our Flex 10 package) in relation to this increase on this forum with the new rate for additional boxes ??
What I have tried to do on this forum is show that their are options, choices and alternative ways to still get most options from Ignite without a second or third box. You have to remember your first box is included mostly likely factored into the total price of your package you choose.
We have cut our monthly bill by dropping the second box ( save $10 a month), Gone from The Premier Package ( over $200 down to Flex 10 )
We have dropped Stingray Plus $3 a month ( get it through the app on Rogers and
IPad)
But you have brought a good point, so if Rogers competition can offer the same for half ( box rental) There is a problem and Rogers needs to justify this increase to subscribers or there will be a mad exodus. Thanks

Unfortunately casting from a smart device in addition to being less user friendly also gives you worse image quality than the dedicated box. It would be nice if they could make a TV app for devices like the Chromecast to deliver the same level of quality and functionality as the Ignite box.

I guess I’m one of the lucky ones.Rogers is only charging me $2.00 extra for the second box not $7.00 plus they give me an accessibility discount of $50.00 off my tv/internet package.

Did you verify your latest bill? I was paying $5/box - $10 less a $5 discount. I am still getting the $5 discount, but the charge is $17 so I am now paying $12 for each box. Make sure that you don't have something similar.

New to the Forum communities and like many others, I missed the fine print regarding the almost doubling of the monthly rental fee for additional TV boxes. My response (and everybody else's should be) to this is : based on the new fee increase, I should be entitled to a new replacement box as well. What if all current subscribers were to make the same request?
