Apparently Rogers just spent millions to upgrade Rogers Centre in Toronto so swifty’s can use their phones and such for Taylor Swifts six shows. Thanks Rogers for the upgrade that none of your “paying” customers use, but to accommodate a up and coming billionaire! Bravo, Bravo

Which, with HST, amounts to $230/year/box. Pure greed. What is the justification, Rogers? The backend infrastructure can't be of any significance, like the analog to digital boxes we've had for years

Agreed. Pure greed. I'll be returning the extra ignite entertainment box

Noticed there was a short report on CBC news tonight about the increase. Rogers response to the complaints basically was basically 'tough luck'.

The complaints are flooding in on Rogers' 70% increase of the rental of additional Ignite Entertainment boxes and now there is a story on CBC.

The 24 month contract (price-lock) does not apply to extra rented devices. My mother has 2 boxes: One that comes free with the ignite bundle and another that she was paying $5/mo for. Now the $5 charge has gone up to $12. We will be returning the extra box and Rogers will be out the $5 they were collecting before. If you can do with fewer boxes, I would suggest returning what you don't need. Maybe that will get the message to Rogers to stop gouging!

Rogers, who just posted record profits, jacked my bill by $25 a month for my ignite boxes. I knew their purchase of Shaw would mean their customers would foot the bill. Shameless and typical of Rogers.

Same here. Was contacted and told Rogers needed to upgrade the digital boxes. That's all - just a switch out for new boxes, no cost to me. Price stays the same. Alrighty. So tech comes to the house, sets up the gateway and two tvs. Within minutes of him leaving I find that there are very few channels and none of the ones that I actually watch. Call Rogers and get told oh ya we discontinued the Basic Cable and its called Essentials now. Well it's not the same at all. I call to say I'm not happy was told no changes. Offered the channels I used to get for $50 more a month. What a deal. $50 more a month for channels I had in the morning but not the afternoon. Then literally two weeks later I get my bill and it is hundreds of dollars and the new increase for the boxes on there. I didn't even get one single bill at the price I agreed to. Call again and work out a deal and literally two weeks later get a new bill for the next billing period and it is even worse. I'm so done with Rogers.

What is an IPTV box, how much does it cost ... and from where would I get it?

Why has the Rogers Xfinity Ent. Box charge gone from $5.00 to $12.00?
With the money that rogers makes for service, this rise in cost is outrageous.

Here's the reason to be upset: Cox is selling the Xumo set-top box to customers for US$60: https://www.cox.com/residential/tv/streaming-devices.html
This is an XiOne set-top box. The same set-top box hardware that Rogers now rents for $17/month. EVERYTHING about Ignite TV has become way too expensive.

You can "purchase" a Rogers-branded set-top box by returning it, keeping it, and paying the non-return fee. ($109.99 + tax, the last time I got charged this in error.). The problem is getting Rogers to re-activate it on your account.

That price increase is criminal IMHO. It used to be $5 then went up to $7. That I can understand giving increase costs to ship. But this increase is unjustifiable. Too little competition on this market.

That's right. No competitions. It is Canadian way of doing business. That's why I'm exploring ways to leave this greedy company and its service.
