@sam2018 wrote:To use MMS you need data and $180 yearly plan is without data. you might get charge for that.
I believe it depends on the provider and the capabilities of the phone does it not ? Our pay as you go phone with Rogers will send and receive pics with no data purchase but our pay go account with a different provider does require data. That difference also partially explains the difference in pricing of the products provided by each provider. Mind you on the Rogers account there is a charge to send pics there isn't one to receive them and I haven't seen it referred to as a data charge

While my grandfathered per minute plan has no data component, when I receive a text with an attachment I can't see it until I enable data on my phone. I'm then charged for the data against my balance.

Interesting ... we are on the same plan with no data ....we just leave the data enabled on the phone all the time and like I said I 'm pretty sure we can receive pics at no cost but have to pay to send . Or at least that is the way it used to be .

I've been saving my call transactions, but must have missed where I received a texted picture, so I asked someone to send me one to see how I'm charged. When I received the text, here is what I got:
I then turned on data and clicked Download.
It took a little while and then the picture appeared and I saved it.
Oddly. I received two $0.50 data charges but no separate SMS charge.
Call times are displayed in Eastern time | Pay As You GoTM Rates |
Call History |
Date & Time | Charge | Number | Call Description | Call Type | Usage |

06/21/2018 09:36 | $0.50 | 410002 | Data |
I emailed those screen shots to myself so I could edit out personal information and post them here. What is really odd is that at this exact same time I received 2 emails from <my cell number>@mms.rogers.com. One was a generic message I've seen before saying
"Rogers msg: As of December 14, 2015, we will no longer play a pre-recorded message if you forget to dial a 1 before making a long distance call within Canada. Instead, we'll connect you right away. Long distance fees will continue to apply, so please check your account at MyRogers to better understand what is included in your plan. Thank you."
But the other one was a scam message I've seen before:
"532A Wireless Refunds !
(519)532-**** has been refunded
$53.45CAD !
We apologize for this matter.

DO NOT OPEN THE ABOVE LINK, OR IF YOU DO, DON'T ENTER ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION!

I must apologise @OLDYELLR ....I see while we have the same grandfathered Anytime plan ...we have a $5 texting add -on .... that seems to change the way the text pricing works significantly ...

How do I pay this online? I need very specific directions please.........because........
I go to PAY AS YOU GO online but it is limited to $100.00,.......same on the phone.
Any help would be appreciated as this has happened for the second year now and I end up going to a Rogers Store....not always convenient.
Thank you.

I go to the store too since I have one near work. But as far as I know you can buy $100 first, and then buy in $20 increments until you reach $80 (don't know if you can just buy a $80). As long as you paid the $180 by deadline then it's fine.

Thank you,..........I never thought of that solution.
I must say that it does not give me the confidence I need to pay this bill because as you know, these days if you don't do exactly what is required you end up penalized..... and it's very difficult to get your money back etc. Getting in touch with a Rogers "real-person" is also frustrating and close to impossible!!
I may just have to go to a Rogers Store again.
Appreciate your time though.

It's actually quite easy to reach a PAYGo real person. Dial 1 800 575 9090, select option 4, select option 4 again, wait a few seconds, then select option 1 (I give you these options so that you don't have to wait through all the options, saving you time). This will get you to a PAYGo specialist. Most other contacts like stores or other Rogers contact numbers do not discuss PAYGo - it's operated almost like a separate business. I have always found the PAYGo CSRs very helpful and knowledgeable about their PAYGo product.
Note the special PAYGo number in the link below:

There AGAIN we get to see what ROGERS thinks of their customers . While it is wonderful that you have great CSR's on the pay go end ....and there is little to no wait time . Why insist on keeping an answering system that has shown time and again that first time users find it a challenge. The only thing that needs to be changed is making contact with a csr an earlier and more user friendly option .
As a paygo user for about 25 years I have only ever used the option to add a voucher or to talk to a csr .... I just don't get it .

I just got an $180 pay as you go plan. When verified the balance whit *225 got 0 (zero).
How can I use my phone whit balance 0?
I paid whit my Rogers Bank credit card ($180) and came back $113 and $45.2 and $45.2. What are they?
07-05-2018 11:28 AM
That's what happened to me,.... and that I find so redundant!!! They do not allow you to make one payment of $180.00 all in one payment! They make you pay $100 + $40 + $40 plus the taxes. (the same as the other PAYG plans) This happened to me even when I called a SCR....and even then they wanted to charge me a fee for calling to pay. There is nothing in the Rogers PAYG page that explains this and people have been confused for a long time,....the same as me!!!
I wish they would read these pages and make the change!!

This is hidden in the "details." Go to the following link, the Talk and Text tab, then click on one of the small blue numbers (2, 3, 4) beside something like "Monthly Service Fee". You will see that the first item is a $2 fee if you call to pay. You need to have pop-ups enabled to see these details. If you pay without using a human, there is no fee. However, it sounds like paying "online" is not very straight-forward (or perhaps paying is easy, but making sense of the charges is not so easy, especially if you forget about HST.)
https://www.rogers.com/web/content/wireless-products/plans#,Tabset1--1,
You may top up your account through IVR, online or on your device. If you top up through the call center, a $2 fee will apply.
I often have similar difficulty when looking at the Rogers bill for my Cable/Internet/Home Phone. I just make sure the total is correct because there are way too many items, especially in my grandfathered package.

That plan carries no balance. You get what you get for $100/year.

That $180 plan was originally as a $100 plan. Quite a jump in price. I originally switched to it from my legacy $100/year talk anytime plan which carries a balance that can be drawn from to renew, but immediately realized it wasn't a good deal for me and called back to renew my original plan instead. Fortunately I was able to do that. Now my talk anytime plan with a balance is grandfathered. If what Rogers offers today is not economical for how you use your phone, there are cheaper alternatives like 7-11 Speakout. It now costs nothing to unlock your phone.

You have to read the fine print VERY carefully when dealing with companies like Rogers. No they are not included in that plan.

You have to add extra money to carry a balance for what the plan does not cover. According to info referred to by Rogers Maude on another thread ... if you are gong to use the phone for "extras" then you could add another $100 voucher and that would get you a balance that would last a year .
The Rogers computer isn't real bright .... the debits from your credit card are for standard Rogers vouchers that add up to $180 plus the necessary HST.
