While watching some recorded TV programs, the sound quality is poor. Periodically the dialogue breaks up, at times going silent. I have reverted back to live TV to see if it was a data transfer issue, but live TV is fine.
Is this an ignite box issue?

Because recorded shows are stereo only. No dd5.1 with recorded shows.
This is no longer the case. If the original programme was DD5.1, then the recording will be DD5.1 This changed a few months back. See my post on the topic below:

I do not know why the OP has issues with sound breakup or silence on recorded programming, more experimentation would need to be done, perhaps with specific programming, specific channels, etc. It would be nice to know what other troubleshooting steps have been taken by the OP or if there is any pattern.
There should be no difference between live and recorded programming. I have encountered an occasional audio glitch (a second here or there in an occasional programme) however, my audio has been fine otherwise.

Haven't performed any other trouble shooting. A little more detail: the problems last up to two to three minutes at a time then reverts to normal sound. The problem does repeat 3 - 4 times over an hour program. Not all recordings are impacted. I'll try and track which programs channels the problems occur.

Hi @Jwalke02!
Have you noticed if this audio issue is also present if you attempt to watch the program On Demand instead? If so, that would indicate a problem with the original file sent to us by the broadcaster and we'd need to further investigate.

Don’t think so. I’ll try and check this out.
i believe I still have a (some) samples . If so, I’ll confirm whether or not the on demand version is also impacted.

Were you able to check this out for us @Jwalke02?
Please let us know so that we can offer further support if needed. 🙂

Unfortunately we had deleted the shows once we had watched them. I’m confident that I’ll encounter the problem again. I’ll update this feed when I do.

It happens only on “recorded” shows. Playing from “on demand” is ok as well as “live”. Rewinding makes no difference.

P.S. It appears that close captions are not working for these programs as well.

Please provide a brief sample list of the problem channel(s) and problem programme(s).
Is the CC missing from the programme all the time, or just when there is an audio hiccup?
When you say rewinding makes no difference, do you mean that you get exactly the same audio hiccup at exactly the same time in the recording? Any video issues at that time?

Show affected include NCIS, NCIS Hawaii, Big Brother, Survivor (appears to be mainly channel 5). When I tried rewinding it might have been worse. There are occasional video issues as well, picture gets a little fuzzy at times and seems to “jitter” a little. Even when to sound is OK the CCs are not there (I tried resetting CCs on but still not working). Playing from “on demand” shows the CCs OK.
The show 911, recorded on channel 15, appears to be OK sound size but CC’s are not working.
These problems appear to be only with “recorded” programs. On Demand for them works fine.

Take that back… 911 channel 5 does have sound problems as well.

Sorry channel 15 for 911

I assume you're not in Toronto. We don't have a channel 5 in Toronto. I recorded the end of NCIS S8 Ep10 as well as S8 Ep11 on Showcase, Channel 39 in Toronto. CC worked fine on both recordings. I didn't watch long enough to catch any audio issues...
Edit - I just checked CC on my computer browser when watching the NCIS S8 Ep10 recording and it works fine there too.

I am in Hamilton. Channel 5 is CBS WIVB. That is where the recording shows, but it might be on channel 3 Global. Channel 15 is Fox which is also on channel 3 Global. I am assuming that if I select a U.S station it me be overridden by the Canadian version. Anything I have recorded on Showcase has never had a problem like this.
