Looks like Rogers has filed increased speeds for the TPIAs.

Wonder how Rogers is going to do that when it can't provide the advertised (read contract) speeds for its own customers. Here's the latest example from yesterday:

Rogers has been talking about wanting to offer 150 Mbps Upstream for quite a while... but they can't do it with only 4 bonded upstream QAM channels. They need to implement mid-split and finally get a (D3.1) upstream OFDMA channel carrying traffic.
Per Telecom Decision CRTC 2021-385 , Rogers is apparently also planning to kick all of the old DOCSIS 3.0 modems off their network on December 31, 2023, paving the way for a DOCSIS 3.1 / DOCSIS 4.0 network that can support even higher upload and download speeds.

To be honest, I don't know what to make of this. For those affected, I would love to know what's going on from a low-level networking perspective.

Not in my area, at least not yet.
@AccordXTC : As areas are upgraded, the available upload speeds also increase. There are several posts on this topic over the past year and if an area is upgraded, then the typical upload is 150 Mbps (or a bit more).
If you go to the following link and "Check Availability" it should show the options for your location and you may get the 2.5 or even 8 Gbps option for download with the higher upload speeds also shown. My area is still limited to 1.5/50.

Rogers Communications in Canada is in limited field trials, and it plans to activate DOCSIS 4.0 on its network by the end of 2025.
I'm sorry but I'm not even remotely excited about this. The HFC infrastructure in my area got upgraded a year ago and Rogers still has not been able to fully implement DOCSIS 3.1 yet. My upstream traffic is still being carried on 4 bonded DOCSIS 3.0 QAM channels, one 16-QAM and three 64-QAM, and that barely allows 100 Mbps upstream. Their new virtualized (CMTS and routing) infrastructure still induces latency and jitter with current traffic loads. I don't see how it could ever support a growing number of 2.5 Gbps (symmetric) subscribers when Rogers finally offers higher speed symmetric services.
The new Casa DAA/R-PHY node in my area also has not been entirely stable. There have been times where Rogers made changes, presumably to try a more ambitious configuration, and this caused the node to fall flat on its face. (I have had outages of hours and even days. The last outage was just a few weeks ago). I'm surprised that Rogers has stuck with their current vendors.
Last year, a major cable company (Charter??) also decided not to go with Casa Systems for their next gen DOCSIS upgrades and that reduced Casa to a penny stock. (Casa had a 52w high of $US 3.79 and is now $0.37 up from a 52w low of $0.24). Not a great vendor to stake your future on.
DOCSIS can compete with DSL but not with fibre. Expenditures of hundreds of millions of dollars for D4.0 infrastructure upgrades will all be for nothing when an overbuilder offers a 1 Gigabit symmetric FTTH service (that actually works) for $70/month.
Right now, Rogers is only doing FTTH deployments in new subdivisions and overbuilding in competitors' territories. I'm still hoping that Rogers will reverse course and make FTTH upgrades a priority again in existing neighbourhoods. They are going to have to do it sooner or later for their own survival.

I was doing some "shopping around" this past weekend and saw that some TPIAs are now advertising upload speeds of up to 100 Mb/s for their 1 Gig and 1.5 Gig service offerings in my area.

Heh. A few days ago, Casa Systems filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. They are currently in the process trying to sell their 5G Mobile Core and RAN assets to Lumine Group and their Cable business to Vecima Networks.
When markets closed on Friday, CASA hit an all-time low of $US 0.00350 / share.
In a few weeks, Rogers will be hosting their 1Q24 update teleconference with investors. Will be interesting to see what they have to say about this.
