Not connecting to Fire Stick or Extender

Marciahilliard
I've been here awhile

Hi there. We recently switched to Rogers Ignite.  The internet is working on our phones and iPads but not our Amazon Firesticks or Wi-Fi extender. The fire stick is connected to the Internet but Netflix and the Home Screen say we have no Internet. I called tech support who weren’t helpful. Any ideas?  I’m thinking a firewall issue but I can’t figure out how to fix it.

Thanks.

Good day, @Marciahilliard !

Welcome to our forums and great first post! 🙂

Although, Fire TV sticks are not supported through Rogers since they are considered third party, as a general rule of thumb, I'd suggest starting with rebooting your Ignite modem (unplug power cord and coaxial for about 1 minute and then plug them back in securely). Once your modem is finished rebooting, restart your Fire stick. Let's see if that does the trick!

Hopefully, some other folks in the community have additional comments or advice to share regarding this issue, as well!

Kind regards,

RogersYasmine

Re: Not connecting to Fire Stick or Extender

Unfortunately that did not work. I spent some time with Rogers IT who couldn’t fix it. This is disappointing as we can no longer use the basement TV for Netflix and Disney or get out receiver to connect with Wi-Fi to air play from our phones. Sounds like we’re switching back to our old internet provider 😞

Re: Not connecting to Fire Stick or Extender

@Marciahilliard  There should not be any issues with Amazon Fire TV sticks connecting to Ignite Wi-Fi.  I have family members who have lots of Amazon devices, including Fire TV sticks, and they have no issues whatsoever.

If you are experiencing connectivity issues with some devices, I would double-check to make sure that you do not have Parental Controls or Advanced Security enabled on your gateway.

Keep in mind that devices connecting through a Range Extender will also end up connecting to the Gateway with a "virtual" MAC address, and this will cause double entries in the Device List in HomeConnect, particularly for mobile devices that roam through your home and that connect to either the RE or directly to the Gateway.  (This can also cause complications if you have parental controls enabled.). Another option to consider is using Ignite Pods to extend your Wi-Fi network.  They are a better alternative to the Range Extender and are fully supported by Rogers.

Thanks for this post.  Way more helpful than tech support (who told me they escalated my problem and would call back with 24-48 hours on Sunday - still no call back). Unfortunately the fire stick isn’t working. We’re also frequently losing our TV connection.  Not a good first two weeks with Rogers.

I'm here a lot

What is interesting is that the Bell fibe app works great on an Amazon Firestick. Since you are paying Rogers  Ignite Tv Services, I would phone up the CRTC and complaint to them.

You can use a Google chromecast to cast the Ignite app from your phone or tablet to your tv. I have the old chromecast where you do it through your mobile device. I don't know if it works using the newer version of chromecast that has its own remote.
