Large ping spikes

Stimmerr
I plan to stick around

Hello,

I have had issues with my internet for the past 8 or so months. I get very brief windows of good steady ping then it shoots off wildly for hours. I originally figured it was due to peak times and that kind of thing, because the steady times fit that pattern for awhile. Now it doesn't matter what time of day, I still jump from 50-60 ms to 1000+ ms for hours.

I have looked through posts that asked for the below information. I have tried resetting and different cables, modem settings, flushing dns..

Update *

Things are a lot better, finally got an email from Rogers saying matenience was complete and I restarted my setup. I get a steady ping still with some spikes but its more manageable. During peak times of course I'm still getting large spikes but its so much more infrequent that I can tolerate it. Thanks everyone for sticking through all this.

Internet in my neighborhood is still suffering from these ongoing issues. no real improvement, still seeing ping spikes all hours of the day into the 500s... hoping for a resolution soon

Just wanted to join the discussion as I am too experiencing ping spikes throughout the day and the evenings in Mississauga. This started early summer and has been getting progressively worse, I have created countless tickets and they all get closed or they claim issue has been fixed and what's insulting they do it after 24hr of the ticket creation, like you can fix it that quick! I was almost certain that those are congestion issues however, I've had 2 separate field techs coming and they claim there are flaps in the neighborhood, they create a maintaince ticket and say wait 15-20 days to get it fixed and then nothing. Playing Call of Duty with constant 60-90-150-200ms spikes to the CMTS is a miserable experience. up and down, up and down, ping plotter charts look insane!, COD is constantly flashing "packet burst", I am currently giving it a last chance with the moderators here to see if they can help

Don't get your hopes up 😶 Had the same issues in Markham since last Feb. Notified Rogers immediately, and almost 12 months later very little improvement has been seen. Quickest solution is to switch providers if you can...

As a matter of fact I was about to give up and look for alternatives, which to be frank is only one since no fiber in Mississauga. However on Sunday night Rogers switched to DAA node (the way I can tell is that now I OFDMA on the upstream channel although its not used as of now) and ping spikes are gone. It took 5 months to get it fixed, it has been only two days so I will continue to monitor.

Having said all that, my biggest gripe is how poorly Rogers handled my support request and tickets. Closing them right away, claiming the issue is fixed etc. I would have understood if they said we are planning to do this node upgrade and things will supposed to be better, but instead I have been given the run around on all levels!

Hmm. good to hear it's being fixed in some areas at least. hope my node is fixed soon...

did your issue resolve?

I think it will be soon. rogers put gas line flags up and down my street a couple weeks ago, and I got a message recently from Rogers saying ‘work is about to begin’. Been over a year now that these issues have been happening so I’m praying this is the last step in the process.

Haven’t had any huge ones in a while, but the biggest I remember seeing were over 3000ms.
