How to increase WiFi download?

I'm a reliable contributor

According to Speedtest, my download speed is in the 940-975 MBPS range and my upload is consistently 179 MBPS. Is there a way to increase my download speed? Thanks for your suggestions.

@chdiamo1 : 1. You need to have a plan that provides for more than 1Gbps. Do you have that?

2. You need to have the XB7 or XB8 Gateway.  Do you have that?

3. You need to plug an Ethernet cable from your computer into port 4 of the Gateway.

4. You need to have equipment (a computer card, etc) capable of more than 1 Gbps. Some (older) equipment does not have that capability.

5. Using WiFi and most equipment, you will not typically get such high speeds. Recent equipment with WiFi 6E capability may be able to, provided you're fairly close to the Gateway.

6. For most applications, and for single users, higher speeds are rarely noticeable. The higher bandwidth is most useful for households with several high bandwidth users.

That's actually pretty good for Wi-Fi.  I presume that this is over Wi-Fi 6, and that you have either a 1.5 Gigabit or 2 Gigabit cable Internet connection.  If you have a 1 Gigabit service or slower, that is about as fast as you are going to get.

I have been able to attain download speeds exceeding 1.8 Gbps over Wi-Fi 6E with my 1.5 Gigabit cable Internet service, and with my computer at close range to the Wi-Fi router/access point.  The same with a 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet connection.

That said, why are you looking for extra speed?  Are you performing massive downloads and need the additional bandwidth or are you striving to reduce ping times for gaming?

If you are looking to increase download speeds, you can achieve this with technology upgrades, provided that your computer and Internet service are also up to the task.  If you could share more details about the equipment that you are currently using and your Internet speed tier, we can then potentially offer suggestions on how you can further improve performance.

If you are looking to improve gaming performance, your problem is not lack of bandwidth, it's latency and jitter.  Increasing your download speed is unlikely to improve things at all, and might even make things worse.  With cable Internet, ping RTTs to well-connected sites will still average 25 - 30ms at the best of times, and there is absolutely nothing that you can do and no amount money that you can spend to reduce that.
