Power Preferences - How to Turn Off "Are You Still There" Notification.

I plan to stick around

After watching Ignite TV for a while I get a pop up asking "Are You Still There" and giving the options to stay on or turn off and a link to "Manage Power Preferences".  Is there any way to turn this off?  Power saver option is turned off.

I've been around

My wife has MS and the TV is her only outlet now. She is unable to use the remote. This is unacceptable. ATM I am thinking of changing to Telus.

Hello @Ironeyes ,

Thank you for taking the time to post your concern in our community. We're sorry to hear that your wife has been experiencing some trouble with our Ignite TV remote. I think some additional clarification is needed at our end, so we can best support your issue. 🙂

Can you kindly let us know if it is the remote itself that has suddenly stopped working? Or are you advising us that your wife is finding it increasingly difficult to use our remote due to having MS?

If the remote has stopped working, may I ask if you've tried swapping out the batteries for fresh ones? After doing so, if the problem still persists, can you please send us a Private Message so we can troubleshoot further? For more information on how our Private Messaging system works, please check out our blog.

If the issue is with the remote being difficult for your wife to utilize, may I suggest that we order her our Large Button Ignite Voice remote so she may try it out and see if it meets her needs?

We look forward to your response!

Re: Power Preferences - How to Turn Off "Are You Still There" Notification.

He’s saying that because of her illness, his wife can’t use a remote and there should be some way to be able to override the fact that after 4 hours the tv automatically goes into screensaver mode unless you press a button on the remote to “stay awake”. A lot of people have an issue with this. I like my tv to stay on during the night while I sleep and every time it goes off it wakes me up or I am constantly waking up to ensure I press a button so the tv doesn’t “go to sleep”. Some people want to leave the tv on for their pets in the day. We pay for the service, we should be able to keep our TV’s on if we want to. This needs to be fixed with an override or you will be losing customers. I will not be renewing with Rogers either because of this.

I've been here awhile

This is the exact predicament we are in, our family member has dementia and all she does is watch tv. We had digital and switched to ignite thinking it’d be easier because she had started trying to control the tv with the phone, I have the current remote marked and the big button remote on the way but her caregivers usually put the tv on for her and she’s good. Unfortunately, once their shifts end, and us family get there to spend the night with her, she is sitting there with a blank stare at the silent screen saver the system chooses to play since she is beyond doing anything else. Clearly no one has touched a button is 5 hours to reset the counter. And she never remembers that’s all she has to do. It’s ridiculous that there’s no way to bypass this feature!

I'm here a lot
These whole circumstances are truly unfortunate. I don’t think we will have this option removed unless we write to the CCTS or Rogers head office. I was just forced off Rogers Digital, where the boxes are slower but technically superior in many ways and feature-rich. Those at least had the power saver option come on once every 24 hours. But every 5 hours? Come on. It’s just not fair to impose that kind of limit on consumers 😞
