Additional Streaming Apps

Will Rogers adapt to carry Canadian- CBC Gem, CTV, Global TV, Yes TV, City TV, TVO, Pluto Tv, apps which are available on the App Store and Smart TVs. They have much more to offer than just the regular channel that is on Ignite. Free time shifting, Throwback, Free play, More Sports, News, Movies. Rogers has a few free apps Tubi, Plex, Filmrise, Fawesome etc.  I ask then why is Rogers charging for timeshift when the broadcasting is offering it free

Rogers will never tell you ahead of time what is coming up until it is there. But IMHO I don't think they will put those apps on the Xi6/XiOne in the near/distant future.

I think Rogers might be some what afraid to add these and has nothing to do with Xi6/XiOne (what ever this is)  and likely any other TV provider as subscribers would find that time shifting is free with CBC, CTV, Global TV, YesTV, and many more

options, channels, movies, shows, Live Tv than with the one network channel that Rogers offers and charging what a broadcaster is offer for free. Does Rogers get anything from Tubi, Plex, Filmrise, Fawesome, Zone-fiy to have their app on Ignite. These apps are free to download and content is free ( ad supported) ,same with CBC Gem, CTV, Global TV , Yes TV Free to download app and content is free ( ad supported)

Come on Rogers get with the game, your subscribers are getting smarter as technology evolves and you can’t slow it down.

It's the model numbers for the IgniteTV boxes that Rogers provides to customers.

Most people want exactly the opposite, they want to run Rogers on their TVs or their own boxes or devices.  So, they already have the access they desire for the items you mention, excepting Rogers on their TVs.

People are free to decide if they wish to pay for timeshifting. Frankly, since IgniteTV includes PVR capability, I see no need for timeshifting at all, but to each his own.

Also, it is not free for Rogers to add these apps on their boxes, despite what you may think.

The apps, coded to run on Rogers' set-top boxes, also need to exist before Rogers can add them.  It's up to the CBC to develop a CBC Gem app or Bell to develop a Crave or CTV app for the X1 platform.

Wow !! Rogers is really limiting their self and to be a Canadian company. I think I only see 3 or 4 apps that are Canadian apps - Weather Network, Crave, SportsNet +, that says how patriotic Rogers is. At least Bell is using Google with 1000’s of apps.

Rogers was is such a rush to create this IPTV system called Ignite from Comcast now everything that is done has to go through Comcast. Thank goodness for the App Store and Google we all don’t have to go through something called X1 just to get an app.

I think there is more than meets the eye here. Rogers is surely afraid if they put up the channels that I mentioned subscribers will cancel their Timeshift packages.( because Rogers charges a fee the broadcasters don’t

I do agree with timeshift channels why stay up to watch something that you can record and watch at your convenience. And I am not restricted by channels that available only on the go. The CBC gem app is available in Canada everywhere.

Rogers got their self in to this, I am sure subscribers will found alternative ways to download apps and watch their content free ( ad supported) especially Canadian

They are free !!! to download and watch) each of these Canadian networks advertise with their ( commercials) on each one of their networks they are free to download and watch (ad supported)

There is much more to this than meets the eye. Even you say these apps have to something to work on Rogers boxes.

Rogers would likely very hesitant to add them as they offer time shift channels, ( free with these their apps and more options ) Most apps run on a more common applications to the public.

As we found out back in 2023 taking the Flex 10 package moving to Ignite ( because of digital PVR issues )

Stingray Music channels weren’t included if we want them $3 a month more. ( Stingray Plus) . Now Stingray app is free to download and no commercials with music playing ( just every half hour you hear” ei. This Stingray 70’s Flasback)

When we cancelled Stingray Plus saving $3 a month. Now we use their app on our IPad and the app on TV as it is included in our price Rogers didn’t increase our monthly bill and we save $3 a month. I had a friend that was paying $3 a month for Stingray music channels on his Flex package I told him to cancel, but when he called Rogers to cancel “they said sir you are going to lose all those channels, he uses the app on TV and IPad saves himself $3  a month again not properly informed

We were asked how many TV’s we had when ordering Ignite (2), when your installer came he said you really don’t need to boxes you can use the app from your IPad now we save $120 a year.

So again how many of your subscribers are paying for items that are legally free elsewhere and aren’t being properly informed.

For example the CBC is free through OTA and now through an app on the internet.
But Rogers and any other TV provider charges to receive them.

I understand Rogers is in business to make money ,but it is time to adapt to technology and inform your subscribers.

To me the internet has opened the door and hopefully subscribers see that the way cable used to be doesn’t have to be that way now. Rogers is now stuck with this whole thing with Comcast. Times have changed.

Now that Rogers has picked up the Plex TV app checkout the 10 Fast Channels that CTV has added to Plex TV - Gridlock, TSN The Ocho, CTV News, CTV @ Home, Corner Gas Channel, The Mightiest Channel, CTV Laughs Channel, CTV Food etc.

These are all free through the Plex TV app.

Also remember CP 24, CTV News Channel and Bloomberg have their own app now and are all free from the App Store.
