iPhones can’t connect to Ignite Wifi

I've been here awhile

For two months our cell phones have not been able to stay connected to ignite wifi. The signal drops all day long and will not connect upon entry to our home. We have no cell wifi problems anywhere else! Endless suggestions to “reboot the modem” or “reset our network settings” have not worked. Tech support visits have solved our tv issues but no one seems to be able to figure out why our cell phones won’t connect to wifi. Help!

Whenever a device cannot connect to Wi-Fi, it's usually for one of the following reasons:

  1. The device cannot connect to Wi-Fi due to a technical incompatibility.  This is often the case where (usually) an older device cannot connect to a more modern Wi-Fi network.
  2. The Wi-Fi network is not allowing the device to connect, usually due to security protections/parental controls getting enabled
  3. The device is not allowing itself to join to a Wi-Fi network, even though it is technically capable of doing so.

 

I'm not aware of any reason why any Apple device (that is capable of running an up-to-date version of iOS) would not technically be able to connect to Ignite Wi-Fi.

 

If you don't have Protected Browsing or Parental Controls enabled, then Ignite Wi-Fi should not be blocking any device from joining the network.

 

That leaves the last bullet point, and there are "quirks" with Apple devices (features that are meant to enhance security and network stability) that can prevent them from joining Wi-Fi, particularly after you change or upgrade the Wi-Fi network in a home.  When I upgraded the Wi-Fi network in my home, I had family members who were unable to connect their i-devices when they visited... and in my case, the "fix" was to disable aspects of Location Services that "assist" the device in finding and connecting to Wi-Fi.

 

I can't say why your iPhones are having problems connecting (or remaining connected) to Wi-Fi but you may find the following articles helpful:

One more thing: If you have a device that supports Wi-Fi 6, it may have trouble connecting (or remaining connected) to an XB7 gateway.  The XB7 only has partial Wi-Fi 6 support and does not support WPA3 encryption.  If this might be the problem, try disabling Wi-Fi 6 on the Ignite gateway by reconfiguring the 5GHz radio to use 802.11 a/n/ac rather than 802.11 a/n/ac/ax.

What additional security options do you have enabled on your Ignite gateway?  Also, when you go into the iPhone's settings for your home Wi-Fi network, do you have the "Private Wi-Fi Address" option enabled, and have you tried disabling it?

Do you have IgniteTV installed? I don't believe the app works until you're migrated to IgniteTV and your equipment is delivered and the gateway powered up.  I could be wrong, but I tried the same thing a couple of months ago.
