I just got upgraded to 1.5GB but the tech said not to bother getting a newer modem. He said my computer, a new’ish, macBookPro would not support anything over 1GB. So I still have the XB6.
Should I not get the XB7 or even the XB8. Why not get the latest that is offered since I got the upgrade. This seems all very odd to me.
thanks,

Yeah, no. The XB6 will "work" but that gateway was only designed to support Internet speeds of up to 1 Gigabit. (See here for the Xfinity gateway specs.). With the 1.5 Gig service or faster, you should have either the XB7 or XB8 gateway.

I’ve got rogers to deliver the XB8. I’m paying for 1.5 so I really should be using it. I understand about the single port supporting 1.5 - they say it’s port 4 on the modem. Thanks for your quick response.
