Retrieving Former Phone Number

Moss1
I've been around

Hi,

I had a mobile phone number with Rogers since 2008. Then I switched the number to Chatr, after 3 months of inactivity as I was travelling, Chatr deactivated the account and released my number. I call the number and it is unassigned. I went to a phone store, they see the number available under Rogers and Fido. However, upon trying to purchase a plan and assign the number, they can't do so. Is there a way to know when will the number be available to be assigned ? Can it be assigned to me again given I have all the documents to prove I was the owner ?
This number is used to verify multiple important work accounts and I would appreciate any help on this matter.

Thank you all

Good day @Moss1 ,

Thanks for posting to the Rogers Community! I completely understand your desire to recuperate your telephone number.

Once unassigned from an account, phone numbers are subject to an aging period where they will not be available to be assigned to another line. You are able to recover your telephone number by resuming your original account, as long as you're within the aging period.

The length of the aging period depends on the product line. For wireless accounts, it is typically 60 days. Do you know how long it's been since your Chatr account was deactivated?

Re: Retrieving Former Phone Number

Hello,

I don't see an answer to this question. Can you please assist. I am also in a similar situation. I had my phone number with Chatr (pay as you go) and due to non payment for 3 months they deactivated. I called Chatr and they mentioned it's impossible to reactivate my phone 😞 I have been using that number since more than 20 years. Is there a way to get my number back.

Please and Thank you

I would start by sending a private message to @CommunityHelps to see if there is anything that Rogers can do to put an extended "hold" on your telephone number, just to make sure it does not get released to another customer.  Once that is done, you can then see if there are any options available for you to get your old number back.
