FIDO ROGERS MIGRATION FALSE ADVERTISING

lucyzhao
I've been around

We were part of the migration and was promised the same service as our Fido plan (same plan, same price), if we signed a 2 year contract.

While they matched the speed and price, our new Rogers modem is a refurbished older model that is significantly worse than our Fido modem. The speed is fine, but the modem itself cannot handle our smart home devices.

What a scam. They've downgraded our hardware and is now requesting twice the price to upgrade the hardware. We don't need more bandwidth or more speed, just a newer model of modem.

We hear that they've been pushing these refurbished 10-year-old modems on all Fido customers. This is terrible as they boast in their 2023 earnings about how much they've profited from customers, but are really ripping off and their Fido migration customers. I regret being scammed into a 2 year deal when they significantly downgraded my hardware after I confirmed that nothing should change during this migration.

@lucyzhao How long has it been since you made the switch?  If it has been less than 30 days and you are truly unhappy with your service, you can still cancel without penalty.

That said, what specific problems are you experiencing with your service and what are you hoping to achieve by getting your Ignite gateway upgraded?  I have family members who are still using their Gen 1 (XB6) gateway -- it has been a solid, reliable modem that provides great Wi-Fi coverage.  (My parents have an XB7 and I have an XB8, and they are still perfectly happy keeping their XB6.  From a software perspective, the feature set is identical, and unless you subscribe to a speed tier over 500 Mbps, you should not notice much (if any) difference in performance.)

If you are having problems getting smart devices to connect, you should try assigning different network names to the 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi networks.  (Enable the "Use different names and passwords for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz WiFi" option in your WiFi settings.). That will disable band steering and should allow your smart devices to connect on the 2.4 GHz band.

The devices should work, however, due to the way the gateway works, the setup needs to be done properly.  Here's a post on the topic:
