New to Ignite and lost audio out for headphones

Koo2
I'm here a lot

Originally my red/white rcf cables were connected to nextbox and headphones worked fine. They are Sony and not bluetooth. There is no way to connect them to ignite box nor the LG tv. Do I need a converter and if so what kind? Digital to analogue? Thanks for any help!

Re: New to Ignite and lost audio out for headphones

Update: I have ordered Optical/Toslink to analogue audio/RCA. I decided to go with the second option given as I only need audio and did not want to potentially mess with the video. But today (I have not stopped trying) the new bluetooth headphones miraculously connected on first try. It was going to be my last try before I disconnected it. I still do not believe it nor trust it yet. I will not cancel my order for the Optical/Toslink to analogue audio/RCA as it seemed simple and might work. But for now I will use what is working for me at the moment. So there may be a delay saying how that option works. There is also an option on the unit I ordered to actually plug in a wired set of headphones. I think I have enough backups in case Bluetooth fails me. I thank you very much for your expertise and support.

Yes, you need an adaptor/converter that will pass the HDMI signals, but also provide analogue audio (RCA) output. Obviously you'll need two HDMI cables, one to feed the adaptor and one to feed the TV from the adaptor.  Make sure you get an adaptor that is capable of handling the video signals to the TV (4K?  1080P?)

The LG TV probably has an optical output, which you could use to feed a converter to analogue audio (Optical/Toslink to analogue audio/RCA) for your headphones, but then you'd need to switch the TV to "external speakers", whenever you wanted to use the headphones, although this may be a cheaper and safer option since it wouldn't involve the video signals.  When using the TV speakers, you'd have to switch the TV audio back to "internal speakers" or whatever it's called.

People have reported issues with Bluetooth headphones, so I wouldn't rush out and get them.

Thank you 57! It will take me a bit to figure that out - not a techie but very much appreciated to have something to go on!! I had already bought a Bluetooth set of headphones, so too late for me and they did not work either. 😞

I am a bit confused when looking to order what I need on Amazon. Would it be a HDMI to RCA converter or a RCA to HDMI? Is there a difference? Thanks 🙂

You need HDMI to RCA since that's the way the signals flow, however, the converter needs to not only have an output for the RCA cables, but it also needs to have an output for the HDMI, so that the signal can continue to the TV (HDMI passthrough). That HDMI output also needs to be compatible with the signal you're sending to the TV - either 4K or 1080P depending on the TV. Might as well get 4K if that's available, even if you don't yet have a 4K TV.

Here's an example, but I'm confused as to whether it'll actually pass 4K when the analogue audio output is in use. Perhaps it goes down to 1080P only when composite video (Yellow) is in use, difficult to tell. Check out the reviews, but this is basically what you want.

Paste the following into Amazon Canada's website and you'll find it in the results for $52.75

You give me hope! It has been a couple of weeks of daily frustration in both the amount of contacts I have reached out to (Rogers call/manufacturers of devices) and my inability to use headphones to hear the tv because I am hard of hearing and also do not want to hear neighbours on both sides of me above my tv. I should just turn the tv up but then I would be just like the neighbours and not care. Thanks for helping me. I will report back when I get what I need and hook it up❣️

@Koo2 were you able to connect the Bluetooth headphones to the Rogers set top box or did you connect them to the LG tv?  If you connect them to the tv, then you can use them no matter what the tv source happens to be, ie: Rogers set top box, DVD player, game box, etc, etc.

The LG tv audio output is quirky, to say the least.  The tv will output 2 channel or 5 channel audio depending on what is selected for the audio output.

Do you have a receiver that has a toslink input, so that you can connect the tv to the receiver via toslink cable?

I don't have time at the moment, but I'll get back to this later today to post comments regarding the LG tv audio output selection and what to expect with those selections.

I connected the Bluetooth headphones to tv via optical. Nothing is connected through that one port ignite box has. I do not know what that can be used for. I have no idea about any other receiver (only an adapter on order for backup) it has been just the wireless headphones, tv and ignite box in my world. I am ok at the moment and not going to touch a thing! LOL
