As of recent (2 weeks now) my VALORANT ping whilst connecting to Illinois (my local server) has been fluctuating pings. I've seen a few previous forums on how this issue has occurred with other people, so I know I'm not the only one. Whenever I load into a game it's a toss up whether or not I will be playing on 25, 40, or 50 ping. My main concern is an infrastructure issue, but the thing is I get the exact same results in a different household which is again, using Rogers I find this incredibly odd because every other server I play on seems to have somewhat steady and consistent ping. I used to be able to pull 26 ms constantly but I find it incredibly frustrating having to play on these high inconsistent pings on my native server in which I'm trying to play competitively.
I added some pictures of my ping to give an example. Let me know if there is anything I can do to fix or just help this situation. Thank you!

How do you know if a node is managed by Cogent? I believe the issue with League and Valorant is the IP 209.148.237.21 sometime 3 months ago 209.148.237.21 latency was sitting between 20-30 avg and now its at 60-70 avg.

Haven't found any solution - even had a Rogers guy come out to check the setup
There are weeks where its sub 30 and today it's the highest its been in many months
Wish they could get their act together

VALORANT ping issue (Illinois Server)
Has anyone figured out what the solution is? I'm on the same boat. Before, my Illinois server ping was in the lower 20s, currently it is over 40s.

Wherebouts are you located @van17?
If you're in Eastern Timezone, you should be using the US East (N. Virginia) server instead as that is most likely the closest available server.
Do you have the same latency issues on the US East server?

I am living in Toronto. I am using Rogers interent since 1.5 years but before 2 months the lowest latency server I was palying on was Illinois with 20 - 25ms but right now the lowest latency I'm getting is 30 - 33ms which is in North virginia server. I have attached screenshot for reference.

Thank you for clarifying @van17!
If you're in Toronto, then I would suggest just using the US East server here instead. You should always play on the server that is closest to you in physical proximity as there is a correlation between ping times and physical distance.
It's possible that something change on Riot's end in this situation. Those ping times do not look out of line to me given the locations of each server.

Hi Corey,
I've recently joined rogers and it's been 2 weeks I'm not able to have my issue sorted out. I don't even get a single server with low ping to play Valorant. Every time I'm just told that it is most likely due to service disruption issue in some areas on Ontario which doesn't make sense.
I'll get my tracert results here as well as the screenshot of the ping I'm getting on all the servers. Please if you can help me to give them better directions to resolve my issue.

Good afternoon @Kumar125!
Are you getting high pings to any other websites, apps or games?
I just want to establish if this is an issue that seems isolated to Riot published games or if you're getting high latency across multiple applications.

Good Afternoon Corey,
Thanks for responding to my query. I believe it is to be riot, as when doing speedtest I'm getting 15-17 max and I just did tracert to youtube and it is around 17 ms as well.

Thank you for your reply and confirming some additional details. If you are only specifically noticing this issue while gaming, this may be something their support can take a further look into to ensure there are no issues with their servers or investigate if others are reporting the same. Have you tried reaching out to their support team?

Hi Jermaine,
Their servers can't be the issue as I see other players playing with low ping, and it's a game if the servers would have issues then it wouldn't stay longer. While this issue only started since I moved to Rogers Internet and it's been about two months now.
They don't have a dedicated support to solve networking issues for customers. If there is anything with their servers, they'd just announce that.

Earlier in the thread @Kumar125, you confirmed that you were only having issues with Riot based games. We have seen a number of complaints about Valorant specifically on our forums.
If you're not experiencing any latency with any other online games, then this latency issue may be isolated to Riot's servers. What happens if you do a 100 packet ping test from your command prompt to Google's DNS 8.8.8.8?
This patch: VALORANT Patch Notes 6.02 (playvalorant.com) implemented a 140ms rewind system to account for latency that may be causing you to feel like you're being hit when on your screen, you've ducked behind cover.

I'm also having the same issue when playing League. @RogersCorey if this is something on Riot's end is there anything I could do?

Should there be an issue on Riot's end, there is nothing we can do @marcelobarreto. You'd have to reach out to Riot to troubleshoot and confirm if there's an issue on their end.
In the meantime, we can run some tests on your modem and check your immediate area to see if there's an issue on our end.
Please feel free to send a private message to @CommunityHelps so we can assist you further. For more information on how our Private Messaging system works, you can find out more here.

I was on Bell and used to game with18 ping on Illinois and around 25-27 maximum on N. Virginia. Had to move to a different area in the same state and Bell doesn't cover the area where i moved in. Fortunate enough Rogers does. Happy with the speeds and it's really reliable but one thing i noticed with Rogers is that my ping with any online game is at least 12ms to 20ms more than i usually play on when i was on Bell. Tried everything to decrease it and the only solution i got to is using Exitlag. Works really well with Valorant and other games. I went playing on Illinois from averaging 45-50 to 27-30 ping which is a really noticeable difference, by selecting US Chicago01 server on Exitlag the other servers doesn't do that much difference at least for me. Hopefully that helps for you guys....
