Reverse DNS lookup works, Forward DNS lookup does not

I have been able to use my DNS name to lookup my IP address. Last time this was working on Mar 6.

Today I can still do reverse lookup but forward lookup failed. Switching to the google dns server does not help.

I rely on this forward lookup so my phone can use the VPN in my home.

Any one has a workaround?

@dragonzealot  I checked two of my family members' homes and neither of their gateways had A or PTR resource records in DNS, so neither forward nor reverse lookups return any results.  I suspect that Rogers may (finally) be purging old DNS entries.

I can see why this may be inconvenient for some but the way that Rogers auto-populated DNS in the past (with the CPE device's and Cable Modem's MAC addresses) was a really, REALLY terrible thing to do.

Agree this is a security hole and should be closed.

For now I switched to using IP address instead of the DNS name. Will have to use DDNS for a long term solution. However it seems that the XB8 ignite modem I am using does not allow DDNS.

Will likely have to register a domain name.
