Hello:

Thank you everybody that posted on the subject, I did a little bit of reading following the different strings but I am still struggling...

I have a very bad wireless internet ('70s condo...) and need reliable service for work. I have a hitron coda 4582 in the living room and purchased a pair of hitron HT-EM4 on sale@amazon... . I installed one of them in the office (second bedroom). The setup is the following:  @living room: coax from wall>Moca-enabled splitter >coax to Hitron moden (I logged in the setup and enabled MocA on Extended Band D and enabled security mode) and coax to TV box. From the modem: Ethernet to smart TV and another device.
Setup @Office: coax from wall into coax input on HT-EM4, coax output into TV box and power ON. Only the power LED is on. (I followed the same procedure with the second HT-EM4 unit, same results).
When I replaced the splitter in the living room with one HT-EM4: coax into Moca; coax from Moca to TV box and ethernet from MoCa unit to Hitron Modem: green LED was indicating power on and blue LED indicating link but the rest were off. TV was working but not the internet. 

I contacted Hitron technical support and they approved the setup. They suggested to check the moca status and I noticed the "link is down" message in the modem. They were out of ideas and mentioned that I should contact Rogers to unblock the modem, what I did this morning.. . Rogers says I enabled the moca in the modem so they do not know what is wrong (the technical support person admitted that he was not knowledgeable in the subject).

I emailed hitron again but I am not very hopeful.. so I am reaching to the community for ideas/suggestions.

Hi @waswithbell, you know, it just shouldn't be this hard to gain access to that closet just to determine where the cabling goes.  There should be some give here that allows residents to determine what's up with their communications cabling, basically look but don't touch as a first step.  Then when the resident has this figured out, he or she either calls in a tech, or he or she is allows to make very simple changes, such as a splitter. 

 

The problem here is that Rogers probably has a contract for communications services, install, uninstall, install splitters, but, that might not extend to making any real physical changes to the cabling.  If your case, and probably for the whole building, its time to ditch the 25 pair cabling and install Cat-5e for telephones and Cat-6a, 7a, or Cat 8 for internet cabling.  That, by far beats trying to run wifi throughout the condo, trying to connect one end with another.  

 

The changes in modems have made existing cabling almost moot.  The problem is that Comcast (Rogers) and Sagecom (Bell) have come up with all in one routers which don't lend themselves very well to existing building and house cabling.  So, its time to change that cabling scheme so that it works for the home owner/renter, etc. 

 

So, looking at your username, obviously you were with Bell, in that same condo??  How did Bell deliver their services, DSL/VDSL or fibre?  Do you have a fibre Optical Network Terminal (ONT) somewhere in your condo?

@waswithbell, reading through your opening post, it seems you purchased a pair of Moca adapters, but it also seems as though you're trying to use the Moca functionality built into the Rogers supplied modem (CODA-4582). Any reason for that? I would suggest disabling the Moca function on the modem (at least for now/testing) and hook up your network using using the Hitron Moca adapters you bought.

That setup doesn't sound right. Try disabling the Moca function on the Rogers modem and then hook up your HT-EM4 like this as a simple test:

This may seem counter-intuitive, but if these Hitron adapters are anything like my Translite Global units, they have a built-in splitter that passes 5-1002Mhz on the TV out port which you can use to "feed" the Rogers modem.

 

Again, this is a simple test to see if you can get the Moca adapters to talk to each-other in separate rooms. Obviously, if you need to hook up more devices to the TV out port of the Moca adapter, you need an alternate arrangement (which there are) but try that first and report back.

Thank you very much for your post Dascombe, the MoCA adaptors were tested originally with the modem before enabling MoCA and that did not work either. Hitron tech support reviewed connections and equipment health and concluded problem was on Rogers equipment.

Sorry for the late reply... Updates on the building equipment: the closet next door is "just electrical" according to information from the superintendent. Rogers utility box is in basement and got picture of the "inside": all suites are connected to these "taps" that according to a quick search are supossed to be MoCA compatible...

Each suite has one coaxial coming out of that "tap" and goes up. The problem is that we seem to have at least 3 coaxial cables coming to the suite, so "somewhere" must be a splitter of sorts...

I asked the super if there were any other closet fro Rogers/Bell and he said: no.

We tired to find a place on the living room to drill a hole and pass a cable: all is concrete.

Called Rogers to try to get another account but we have to find the customer service people who deal with "bulk plans", apparently nobody tried to get two accounts in a condo before (!!!).

Still waiting for an answer as to when the agreement with Rogers will end..Not a fast bunch here...

We have done some research looking at the :"NETGEAR Orbi WiFi 6 System (found the AX4200 RBK752-100CNS at Costco", these were described as "router that would penetrate concrete walls"...it sounds a bit far fetched but as long as I can take them back... I noticed you gave some advice to fellow community member Jstorm81.

As for Bell, I did have Bell Fibe before in my other 2 previous addresses and took my landline when trying to move my service to Rogers and the process "got botched" (this was Bell's doing...). But I see several of our neighbours have bell judging by their network name's... at least 5 are in our range...
