Is Rogers doing fiber upgrades in Kitchener?

Hello,

Does anybody know if Rogers is doing fiber upgrades in Kitchener? I have seen Bell doing upgrades in Forest Heights and now they are stringing fiber cable on hydro lines in downtown and east Kitchener. On my walk today I saw fiber construction on Hohner Ave from Lancaster to Samuel St. Don't know if it's Rogers or Bell. Has anyone in Kitchener other then new buildings, have you gotten pure fiber or seen construction from Rogers?

Thank you.

Who was the contractor doing the work?  You can also ask the crews yourself.  Also, the fibre cables and conduits should be tagged.

If you want to know whether your home will be getting upgraded to FTTH anytime soon, send a private message to @CommunityHelps and ask them to check the construction schedule for your area.

At some point, Rogers will upgrade all of the neighbourhoods to fibre.  Rogers can also tell you if an upgrade is imminent... but if it is, you will also receive written notices from Rogers informing you of upcoming construction.  If not, then there is no telling whether it will happen in 1 year, 10 years or 20 years from now.  Your other indicator that fibre (from someone) is coming is that you will see utility locates being done, and lines labelled F/O drawn in pink paint to mark the fibre route.  Until you see signage, written notices, survey marks or locates being done, no construction activity will be happening, and anything planned is subject to change.

Most of the fiber work in Kitchener right now are for Bell, since Bell service for most of Kitchener are still on DSL with max speed of 100Mbps, while for Rogers at least they are already FTTN -> Copper for last KM, so we can get gigabit through rogers.

except some new neighbourhood in Waterloo that already have bell Fiber FTTH pre-layed, then Rogers try to "catch up" there .
So at this moment for kitchener, we already got FTTN from Rogers and hopefully getting FTTH from Bell soon. Then we might see Rogers FTTH work

Thank you for the replies.  Well it doesn't sound good, was just curious because I have to decide by January 25 whether to stay with Rogers or switch to Bell (who have pure fiber in my building).

@SQUARE7 Sorry, I misunderstood.  The info that I posted is what to expect if you are in a subdivision of single-family homes.  In MDUs, the situation is different.  In many cases, telcos may already have fibre access to the telecom room in the basement, just not throughout the building to every suite.

You also didn't mention that Bell also already had a presence in your building.  If this is recent or they are just starting to bring fibre to every unit, they may have an exclusivity agreement with your building management that would prevent their competitors from offering fibre Internet, possibly for several years.

No worries, I like to learn about this latest technology.  I have lived in my highrise close to 3 years and had Bell pure fiber from the start.  How long before that I'm not sure.  I have asked my building management about the fiber to the building, but they are not responding.  That is why I wish Rogers could let me know about my building, but they don't give out estimation dates or other data about specific buildings if or when pure fiber is coming.

@SQUARE7  Next time you see a Rogers van parked at your building, ask the tech whether there are any plans to upgrade the Rogers services there.  Rogers probably also as a Client Relationship Specialist assigned to your building who you could probably also ask as well.

If Rogers Fibre Internet is going to be available anytime soon, you will almost certainly see signage, handouts and perhaps even Rogers reps doing info sessions to woo prospective customers.
