Email problems

I plan to stick around

Today my desktop Outlook 365 is not working for Rogers email

And now my cellphone email client is not working either.

Keeps asking for new password.

Rogers Member Centre not working - keeps telling me something is wrong on their end and to try again.

Managed to log into Yahoo mail via website  - I see my clients have not been working since about 1:00pm April 3.

Is there something I am missing?

Not supporting app passwords properly is a Rogers issue, but there is a Microsoft fix to this problem.

I am running Office 365 Version 2309, Build 16803.20000 and Outlook connects properly with my Rogers Yahoo account.  I had to join the Office Insider program and switch to the Beta Channel to get a working version of Outlook.  A working version may now be in the production version of Office 365, so update your installation first, and then join the Insider program if it doesn't work.

As of September 14th 2023 & for many months with no foreseeable end in sight - Rogers will simply not allow you to use Outlook.  A manager jut kept repeating robotically, "We are  having problems with it for now & the foreseeable future".  He was unwilling and/or unable to say if that would eve change.  When I suggested that he appeared to be telling me to open use Bell as an email provider if I wanted to use n=my outlook he actually agreed.  I'm not making this up & I was in no way, shape or form ranting.  Other (but not all) tech support people just kept repeating the party line endlessly - with no help or empathy given. The manager actually said that Rogers customers are not paying them to provide email & when I pointed out that was a technical letter of the law answer running roughshod over its spirit, that all Rogers customer quite reasonably understood was Rogers responsibility , he went silent & did not disagree.  You can't make this kind of thing up.  We only ended the conversation when I said, please correct me if I'm wrong but it appears we've (him in particular) has said everything that was going to be, at least of any value.

I finally spoke to a tech support person who to;d me what was going on.  A bright guy who once worked for a contractor to NASA trying to solve HW & SW computer issues for them.  He told me it was massive simple mindedness being desperately grasped at a a makeshift attempt at a solution (however awkward in real time) to prevent spammers from sending spam through the use of outlook.  I explained that anyone remotely diligent in labeling spam as junk has truly minimal & manageable amounts of it - & I would not describe myself a a techie or a nerd (& I respect both).  He agreed & told me that he immediately asked the powers at be what they were going to replace it with & that al H would break lose as so many were so heavily sabotaged (one example only being its impossible to see all your email addresses simultaneously to keep track in real time of badly needed timely info being sent).  He receive no answer & the issue is only worsening.   Clearly Rogers needs to deploy some meaningful % of the time, effort & energy implemented to resolve the outage fiasco.

There IS  some potential hope that they may do so if you do the following: Make a complaint to the CRTC the way I did w/o submitting any additional documentation.  You can call - 1-877-249-2782 or fill out a form (not hard to do & i submitted no extra documentation) or email them at response@ccts-cprst.ca or fill out a form (it's straightforward even for haters of filling out forms such a myself - https://www.ccts-cprst.ca/  HERE'S THE KICKER - Either that day or the next I received an official reply that my submission was accepted & Rogers was notified that they had 2o days to get back to them on whether it was resolved or not. This strongly implies that I'm one of a significant enough number officially complaining on this issue.  That was a few days ago & Rogers is supposed to get back to me to try & resolve it.  They have not & I seriously wonder if they will. If they do not then the CRTC starts to turn up the pressure.  Rogers can be forced to take corrective action as they were very recently when they were ordered to facilitate other telecom providers with being able to provide cell phone service on Toronto transit.

This then is on all on you to make a formal complaint & get others to.  The issue will be resolved as quickly & thoroughly as you do so.  Please stand up for yourselves. You're far more powerful then you think - if you let yourselves be so here.  Be as resplendent  a you easily can be here, please.

I also sent the form to the CRTC. I even had a chat from a tech specialist which I attached. This sad!!!

I wish there was another choice to get internet. I think I am going to create an outlook account. I have so many things attached to my email. Thanks Rogers.....

It is a good idea to get one of those password manager notebooks from Chapters and write down all the companies and websites where you deal with and what email or login you have associated with them.

If you change your email address, you can then go thru the book and find all the websites or businesses you have dealt with and make the changes.

I would prefer sticking with a non-isp related email, in the event if you ever move somewhere else and that isp is no longer available.

I use a password manager which avoids many issues in writing down endless passwords in a losable,  physical source subject to damage.

I own a copy, why would I give Rogers more money!!

Re: Email problems

The last week of September, I was no longer able to access any of our email accounts through Thunderbird. On another desktop Outlook stopped working for 3 other accounts LONG ago. Is Thunderbird still working for you? What server settings are working for you? thanks!

I just talked with Rogers.  Outlook email on one of my MacBooks is fine but the other has been out since May.  Rogers is now blaming Microsoft saying they are responsible to fix the password generation code.  No end in sight.

Re: Email problems

App password Generation still an issue . Has any one found a work around.

It seem like Rogers i not supporting  Outlook any more. Please can some one confirm.

Has anyone found a work around

Thanks

Thanks everyone, now I understand why I can get my Rogers email in Google Gmail App on my Pixel 8, but not in my Outlook App on my Pixel 8, which talks to my Google Watch 2 Outlook App. No App Specific password to be generated says the "Rogers Member Centre", no ability to add my email account where I want it, I can only use the Gmail Mail App or the Browser on my Picel 8. It does not matter who is a fault - be it Rogers/Yahoo/Microsoft, the problem is not solved - moving on...

Ironically, I was able to add it to the NEW Outlook Preview on my Windows Desktop without any App Specific Password, maybe there is hope still on the Android Mobile front....

Rogers has been working on accessing email through Outlook or MacMail for 9 months for desktops without a resolution. Does anyone else think this is ridiculous?

Totally unacceptable. The problem is at Rogers end, not Microsofts !

This is a serious problem for business users with Outlook 365. I spoke to their tech support told me they have been usuccessfully working on a fix for many months and it remains still unresolve. What they don't tell you is that their problem corrupts Your outlook file and it must be repair as it doesn't close correctly and stays in the background. To repair the outlook file us the Microsoft SCANpst repair tool. I am ready to change internet providers as it is taking too long and they may not have solution.

@Georog As discussed here many times, the worst thing you can do is change providers. Simply use something like Gmail or Outlook Mail or Yahoo mail or pay for your own domain which are all not tied to a specific provider.  If you go to another provider like Bell, you may end up with the same problem and also need to change your e-mail address if you move to a place that doesn't have the same provider.

My Rogers e-mail just started working today in Outlook. Thank God I can finally check my email painlessly! A window just popped up on my screen and I entered my password (not the authenticated applications one) just my regular password and in poured thousands of emails into Outlook.

Outlook 365 is my connection to my office emails, it is how we do business. Explain this, I travel nationwide never had a connection problem when I am at home my rogers email doesn't work and damages my outlook file.

Re: Email problems

If you buy Microsoft 365 from Rogers, does Outlook work?   (Office 365 from Microsoft directly does not)
