Can a CGN3 Hitron Gateway be used as an Access Point?

As an ignorant newbie to network setups I have been able to log into an old Rogers Hitron Gateway (Let's call it RHG_B).  I am presently connected to the internet with another identical Rogers Hitron Gateway (RHG_A) which i plan to leave as is, only configuring RHG_B as an access point by connecting it to RHG_A by means of an ethernet cable. 

The problem is that RHG_B keeps showing me a screen and a message 'Let's get you connected to the internet" or 

"You don't seem to be connected to the internet". It occurs to me that either there is Rogers Software resident on RHG_B that I must bypass or I must disable its modem?

We only intend for this modem to be used as a modem. Setting it up as an access point is not officially supported.
