3G25W-R Modem - Bridged Mode

something1965
I plan to stick around

Cannot find how to get this unit into Bridged Mode or tell if it is already which I suspect it's not.

It also does not seem to have remote admin access option?

Problem is cannot connect to the Routers web admin page or phone systems web page connected to router as well.

The strange things are

-Modem show one external IP

-Router shows a different external IP

-When plugged into the Router with laptop it can not only connect to the router at 192.168.2.1 but it can also connect to 192.168.1.1, I didnt know this was even possible.

PC to Router (WiFi enabled), Router to Modem (WiFi is diabled)

Router is Asus RT-N53

Anyone with insight to this?

Hello, @something1965

I can confirm the bridge mode is not available on the Rocket Hubs. The Remote Admin will only be available if you are using the hub's WiFi.

You may want to disable both WiFi and DHCP from the hub. Both settings can be found under Advanced/Basic Settings. Just in case, if there is a conflict when the DHCP is enabled both on the hub and the router.

Hello @something1965,

To be honest, I don't have the answer to this and wasn't able to find the answer in the instruction manual. It doesn't appear this modem has a bridge mode function, but I'll probe around with some colleague and get back to you once I have more information.

We'll be in touch :).

As for Remote Admin we found it under Security/Misc

Thanks!

Ok if we leave  Wifi (& Remote admin) disabled should I not get the Routers GUI?

or maybe because the Router is 198.162.2.1 instead of something like 198.162.1.X?

Re: 3G25W-R Modem - Bridged Mode

Hello, @something1965

I'm assuming you are trying to reach your Router's admin page over the WiFi connection, what happens when you try? By default, the hub's gateway IP is 192.168.1.1 so you should be able to reach your Router's admin page if its IP is 192.168.2.1 and as long as you are connected to your Router's Wifi.

Cheers,

RogersMoin

No I am trying to access it (and phone system using port forward on router) remotely hence the need for Bridge mode.

I am also confused how internal how  a .1.1 can connect to a .2.1

@something1965 - Thank you for the clarification.

@Gdkitty - your thoughts on how to accomplish this task?

I am going on site tomorrrow, bit of a drive so hopefully somebody knows a workaround.

I sold the phone system to my buddy who is actualy a long time Rogers Cable tech but lives in rural street with this Hotspot.

My plan as a last resort is to maybe relocate the Asus Router and convert to AP and turn on the Wifi on the Hotspot and use it as the router.

The router was put in place because of the bad WiFi coverage on the Hotspot

Re: 3G25W-R Modem - Bridged Mode

So I did use the last resort as it just seemed to be  better thing to do and now they have better WiFi coverage.

New setup

Hotspot = Modem & Router & WiFi.

Asus = Access Point Mode with patch cord to phone system & WiFi

Both WiFi's work and all ping and connect internally perfect.

The only stumbling block now is the port forwarding.

I was trying to forward 22, 443, 5989 and 60001 all TCP and pointing to the same internal IP

Would not save so did one line at a time then found that it was 60001 it would not take so assume router is restricted to amount and lentgh of ports.

All boxes are Enabled and the Rule is Always but no way to change it anyway.

I cannot get in touch to the phone system remotely even though the ports are forwarded.

One thing though is the Hotspots IP address under status does not match WhatsmyIP.com if that is a clue.

Allthough I am told the External IP changes a few times during the day I was testing right away while IP had not changed.

It's only once in a blue moon to dial in to service the phone system.

Thanks

Re: 3G25W-R Modem - Bridged Mode

Hello, @something1965

Thank you for updating the Community with your attempts to gain remote access to the router and the phone system. I think WhatsmyIP will show the Public IP of the hub. The router/AP should have the internal IP allocated by the hub.

@Community - Anybody experience with remote access please chime in.

Cheers,

RogersMoin

Re: 3G25W-R Modem - Bridged Mode

Generally in my experience from on here.. that with any of the cellular, you can not directly remote access it from it outsid, at least by default.

In general, cellular IPs will not respond to ping, etc.  They are not directly routable.

So therefore, can not do port forwarding.

The only way that i know of, is to pay for a static IP.
It forces a static IP which doesnt change, and then does direct routing to the cellular networks IP.

Sorry for the 3rd and final time as my email replies setting was turned off...

I am convinced that yes it is not possible with the Hotspot unless static IP and yes you also cannot bridge mode it.

Cheers
