I'm not quite sure what you're asking, but when I switched from an old phone to a newer one that used a smaller SIM, I took the phone to a Rogers store and they cut my old larger SIM to fit the new phone, using a SIM card cutter. No charge and they also checked the new phone to ensure it could make/receive calls.  This (cutter) is not recommended by some people, but it worked fine for me.  Call the store beforehand.

If you're at a store, they can also provide a new SIM, but they may charge you $10...

Without a SIM, the old phone can be used to make (911) emergency calls, or donated to a shelter of some sort for emergency calls.

If I haven't covered what you're asking, please clarify.

As a Technical Specialist and Expert in the cellular industry, I am one of those people who are against cutting your old sim card down to micro or nano size to use in your new phone.  Yes it might work in theory, but it is advised against doing so. Not just that but as newer technologies become available such as 4G and 5G,  SIM Cards have been upgraded to include newer tables, network, and programming information so yes older sim cards could also cause network connectivity issues either now or down the road in the future if used in newer phones.

Also if you look at a picture of the nano SIM and the original SIM side by side you will see some older original sim cards the metal contacts are wider (8 contacts) than width of the nano SIM card (6 contacts) so by cutting this down you will have to cut off 2 contacts and risk cutting into the microchip on the sim card and rendering it inoperable.

Often enough if you explain to them you received a new phone that is incompatible with your current outdated SIM card, they usually send you a SIM card and waive the charge, or if you bought one already they may offer to credit your account what it costs you.

Best of luck and enjoy your new Moto G pure phone
