I traveled to US/Mexico for 7days. I turned off date roaming off and used eSIM while I was in Mexico. After I came back to Canada , I received unexpected bills. They charged $15/day for roaming every single day I was there. I followed the eSIM instructions to install eSIM and I am very unhappy and upset with Rogers. I didn’t have problems when I travelled to Japan with eSIM but the provider wasn’t Rogers.
I have a lot of issues since I switched to Rogers. Very disappointed 😞

turning off data roaming blocks the data portion only of your roaming, you can still roam on another carrier when data roaming is off, and can still make voice calls or receive sms messages. you need to turn on air plain mode or eject the sim card to avoid roaming charges completely

@Littlemom : To add to what @Pauly stated above, here's a summary of what you need to do to avoid or minimize roaming charges:
Here's a thread discussing the topic: Read at least posts 1 and 2.

@Littlemom : If you read the links I provided, you will see why you were charged. If the Rogers SIM is still in the phone, it can roam and connect to a cell tower. It can connect for many reasons like a text, or a call, or location services for say GPS, for app updates, etc. As mentioned, you need to remove the Rogers SIM, or put the phone in Airplane mode. I do not know if it's possible, if you wish to use a local SIM to put the Rogers SIM in airplane mode and use the local SIM, or if you need to remove the Rogers SIM. I have not done this myself since I'm on a Pre-paid plan and don't do Roam Like Home. I leave my phone in Airplane mode and use WiFi.
If I had to use my phone for an emergency, I would take it out of airplane mode and make my text or call, for which I would be charged on a pay-per-use basis, which is not cheap, but is a lot cheaper than Roam Like Home every day. Many people use WhatsApp for texting, which incurs no charges if used on WiFi, with the phone in Airplane mode.
