Cancelling data plan without paying off phone financing

mark_ward
I plan to stick around

I pay $50 a month finance fees and have seven months to go. At which point I either keep my phone and pay $590 or return it. I am ok with paying the monthly charges until I decide what to do with the phone. My question relates to my 25 gb data plan. I pay $45 a month but want to cancel that as I can get10 gb a month for $23 a month with another company . So an I cancel just the data plan?

Thanks for the reply. I have to say that is totally unfair. On more than one occasion i have been persuaded to switch plans mid contract i.e. more data and higher cost. Now i simply seek to go in the opposite direction , less data less cost and i am being told I have to pay out my financing. Does Rogers have any clue when it comes to client retention. I will be paying out my contract returning my phone and moving on

Can no Rogers agent reply? Been on hold for 90 mins this morning. Yesterday I visited two Roger’s outlets and got two different answers. Website chat will not connect to live agent the AI bot Anna is useless

Re: Cancelling data plan without paying off phone financing

Good day @mark_ward,

Thank you for your post!

Your financing agreement will be cancelled and the outstanding financing balance will be charged, if you change your price plan to an ineligible plan (e.g., moving from a postpaid Infinite plan to a Talk-and-Text plan)

If you upgrade to a new phone with financing; the outstanding financing balance for your phone will be charged.

If, for any reason, the wireless service you subscribed to when you purchased your device is cancelled or transferred, you may no longer participate in the Save & Return program and must repay your Save & Return credit at the time of that cancellation. Once you cancel or transfer, you no longer have the option to return your device. We will charge the Save & Return credit on your next bill along with any other applicable charges (e.g., your total outstanding device financing balance).

Therefore, you will have the ability to change your Voice, text and data plan to a voice and text plan, without having to pay for your remaining balance, when your device term comes to an end, in 7 months.

Hope this helps!

Re: Cancelling data plan without paying off phone financing

Hello @mark_ward ,

I can understand your disappointment. Unfortunately, when opting for the Save & Return program (former known as Upfront Edge), part of the agreement was that you'd have to remain on an eligible Talk, Text & Data plan for the full duration of the term. By moving to a non-data plan, this would be considered breaking the agreement which is why you would be automatically charged out for any remaining financing and Save & Return balance. Feel free to review the original terms and conditions of the offer which would have been provided to you at the time of purchase.

With this being said, you are able to change your price plan, however, it must be an eligible financing plan that includes data, even if it's less data than you have currently. Although you mentioned that you have more data than required at the moment, I must say that $45/month for 25GB of data is quite lucrative!

We appreciate your understanding in this matter and hope that you'll reconsider your decision to move away from Rogers as your business is very important to us. 🙂

Kind regards,

RogersYasmine

I don't want a talk and text plan i need data just not 20 Gb. As i have said i only neec 10 GB or could share 20 with my spouse who is willing to port her telus contract to Rogers and share data with me. For some reason every time i ask for less data or to share my data you keep offering me more? Its so frustrating
