Rogers door bell Chirping during winter

NandhiniA
I've been around

Recently installed Roger’s door bell. When there is snow and wind, door bell started chirping continuously. I couldn’t see any settings to control sensitivity. Is this software issue ?

Good morning @NandhiniA!

If this only happens during the winter, this is most likely an electrical issue. As temperatures drop, the resistance of materials increase and that can cause a voltage drop. The doorbell transformer may not be sufficient, it wasn't installed properly or it wasn't installed at all. Older homes don't always have a transformer already installed.

The Xfinity Self Protection Video Doorbell needs a voltage between 16-24 volts (VAC). Do you know if the voltage was tested before the doorbell was installed? Please consult a licensed professional if you have questions regarding your doorbell wiring.

That is not correct for most conductors.  Resistance decreases with temperature, however, what typically happens with cold weather is that the conductor contracts.  If there is poor contact due to this contraction, then the circuit fails.  So, look for a poor connection in your circuit.  Undo and redo any connections.

P.S.  Some items (semiconductors) have an inverse relationship with temperature, however, that is not usually the case for conductors like copper/aluminum.

Re: Rogers door bell Chirping during winter

Forgive me if I got my wires crossed! My knowledge of electrical is just enough that I can safely replace outlets and hardwired lights at home. I am by no means an electrician!

But as far as I'm aware, cold temperatures have the inverse effect on semi-conductors which a smart doorbell should have several.

Either way, this issue strikes me as electrical and a professional electrician should be hired by the OP to check if the doorbell was installed properly to withstand our winter weather.
