@MaggieSophie  yes it will, as the set top box (Xi6-A, Xi6-T or XiOne) is wifi capable.  The real question is how well will the set top box work in its intended location.

The set top boxes are only able to connect to a tv via HDMI, and for the most part, that appears to work fairly well, but, there are some customers who have experienced problems with that HDMI connection between the set top box and the tv.

I don’t understand what you mean about the set top box working in its intended location?

Regarding the wifi strength in the location where you wish to put the new TV.

The new TV does not need wifi just the rogers TV box.

Re: Will my new tv work with ignite?

When the Ignite TV set top box is parked somewhere in your home, and connected to the modem via wifi, it will behave just like any other wifi device that connects to the modem.  That wifi performance will depend on where the modem is located, where the set top box is located, and what material is located between the two.  And by that I mean, house building material, wall studs, drywall, concrete, heating and air conditioning ducts, etc, etc.  Anything that might impede a direct path between the modem and the set top box and result in a reduced signal level at the set top box.  The less there is, the better.

So, depending on where the modem is, and where you intend to park the tv and set top box, the wifi link might perform brilliantly, or, it might be a pain.....

If the modem and set top box are close to each other, then they can be connected via ethernet cable, avoiding any issues with wifi.

Thank you, so I must be doing something wrong because I can’t get the remote to sync with the tv. Spent hours trying today. No idea what to do next. I just bought the tv, it’s a brand new 24” Insignia.

Re: Will my new tv work with ignite?

Ah, ok, there should be a remote control code for the Insignia TV that can be input into the ignite controller.  I wouldn't guarantee that however.  I don't use Ignite TV, so, I'm definitely not knowledgeable in that area.  There are others who can help with that one however.  @57 @-G- @Biollw, calling on your services to solve this.

In the mean time, you might have to simply use the Insignia controller to run the tv and use the Ignite controller for the set top box.

The question at hand is whether or not there is an Insignia controller code that the Ignite TV controller will accept, giving the Ignite TV controller the ability to control the TV.

Ok, have a look at the following page, which is the Xfinity page for its remote controllers.  Follow the page for your particular Ignite TV controller, and select Insignia on the next page.  You should see the instructions and codes to try on the following search page.

Program Your TV Remote and Get Remote Codes - Xfinity

The Rogers Ignite System is a licenced copy of the Comcast XBx modems and set top boxes, so, there should be a code for your tv in the Xfinity pages.

Here is a post by @RogersTim that shows how to program an Ignite TV controller:

https://communityforums.rogers.com/t5/Ignite-TV/How-to-program-Ignite-Voice-Remote-to-work-with-othe...

Keep in mind that although most TV models should have codes for them, there is always the possibility that there isn't a code for any particular tv.  The manufacturing companies will probably use historical codes, but, the company might switch to a new code sequence at some point that isn't in the Xfinity or Ignite Tv database.

Here's the Rogers page for the Remote Controller support:

https://www.rogers.com/support/tv/remote

Select the correct controller type and keep following the successive links to the instructions to program your Ignite remote control.  When in doubt, I'd use the Xfinity Control pages to try the various Insignia control codes.

Re: Will my new tv work with ignite?

Well I tried all the codes but none seem to work. The box is working, at least the light is on, same with the remote. I’m assuming the tv is working because I have no way of checking it since it’s brand new and I just changed from legacy to ignite. Rogers set up my other tv with ignite last week and it works fine. Wish I had watched what the installer was doing. Can’t find another 24” tv other than Insignia.

Than you for your help.

Re: Will my new tv work with ignite?

Ok, is the set top box and tv connected with an HDMI cable?

At the back of the tv, you'll probably see more than one HDMI input locations.  I'm assuming maybe two or three?

The set top box should probably be connected to HDMI port #1, but, as long as you know what port the HDMI cable is connected to, thats ok.  Just take note of it.

With the two of them connected, you should be able to use the tv controller to start the tv.  There will be a setup selection, probably under a Menu button.  Following the menu button, you should be able to drill down to the input selection for the tv, which in this case will be an HDMI selection.  With the set top box, plugged in to the wall power and running, you can cycle thru the HDMI selection until you see something displayed from the set top box.  From there, you can follow the post above to set the tv code within the Ignite tv controller

Now, if the tv controller has an input selection, use that and cycle thru the HDMI selections, one at a time until you see something from the set top box.

Ok, if you managed to get this far, to see some image from the set top box, you will need to use the Ignite TV controller to choose the correct wifi network (yours) so that the modem and set top box will communicate.  I'm going to have to look that up.

To control the tv, using the Ignite TV controller, have a look at the following.  The entry code into the Ignite TV control might be the same no matter which Ignite TV control you have, but, the buttons that you use will be different.

If you have an Ignite XR11 controller, it will look like this:

xr11 controller at DuckDuckGo

Program your remote using a code:

  1. Turn on the TV you are programming.
  2. Press and hold the “Setup” button until the status LED at the top of the remote changes from red to green.
  3. Type in the 4-digit or 5-digit code listed below using the number buttons. Additional codes may be found in the remote manual.

    Most likely code: 12049

    Others to try: 12264, 11756, 11204, 11517, 11660, 12751, 11326, 11641, 12417, 11780, 11564, 11785, 11892, 12002, 10463, 12258, 12282, 10171, 11385, 11963, 10842, 11463, 10178, 11603

  4. If the code is entered correctly, the status LED will flash green twice. If the status LED blinks red, then green the code was not entered correctly. Check that you are entering the correct code and try again.
  5. Use the remote to operate your TV (use Power, VOL, etc.)
  6. If these steps don't work, try another 4-digit or 5-digit code and repeat the above.

If you have an XR15 controller, it will look like this:

xr15 controller at DuckDuckGo

Pair the XR15 Remote to Control a TV:

This will allow you to control your television's power, volume and input from the XR15 remote.

  1. While the TV is on, press and hold the Xfinity and Mute buttons together for five seconds until the remote light at the top changes from red to green.
  2. Enter the first five-digit code listed for the TV manufacturer.

    Most likely code: 12049

    Others to try: 11756, 11204, 11517, 11660, 12751, 11326, 11641, 12002, 12417, 11564, 11785, 11892, 10463, 10171, 11385, 11963, 11463

Valid code = remote light blinks green twice

Invalid code = remote light blinks red, then green

  3. Aim the remote at the TV, and press the Power button. If the TV turns off, turn the TV back on and verify that the Volume and Mute buttons work.

If the TV does not turn off, repeat the process with the next TV manufacturer device code.

Ok, I'll look up the instructions to connect the set top box to the tv.  It should basically be:

1.  Connect the set top box to the tv, noting which HDMI port on the tv is connected (HDMI 1, HDMI 2, etc, etc)

2.  Start the tv and select the HDMI port that was connected, either thru the tv menu, or thru an input select button.

3.  Power up the the set top box and pair the remote controller to the set top box and then select your wifi network so that the modem and set top box communicate with each other.

Standby .......

To answer your question, YES the ignite TV will work with your new TV.

Is the Ignite TV connected to your new TV and the TV turned on?  do you see a picture? if so yes your all done.

Did you tried to set up the remote? if the remote programming was unsuccessful, you can still use your insignia remote to turn on/off the tv until you figure out the right code, and use the ignite remote to change channels and what not.  it may not be convenient as having one remote do it all, but it does not stop you from watching tv, correct?  all you have to do is find the right code,  i know pleanty of people who have insignia tvs and have their remote working, just try a google or yahoo or bing search.

Hi, I st up the tv with the remote that came with the tv but got to the part where I needed to sync the Rogers remote when I was not able to. I can turn the tv on and off with the original tv remote but there is no picture. I did see a message that said I was not receiving any channels (not those exact words). I used the tv remote to do a set up that appeared on the tv when I first turned it on, it had me input my wifi password among other stuff. It’s only a kitchen tv, I’m not going to watch movies just basic tv channels like I had with legacy but I do need to at least get a picture on the screen. There is also a strange yellow zigzag in the to left corner of the screen. No idea what that is. Late now, I’ll try again tomorrow. Thanks for everyone’s help so far.

Please let us know what step you're at.  As in:

1.  tv and set top box connected via HDMI cable, noting the port # that is connected on the tv.

2.  tv and set top box powered up.

3.  tv remote control used to select the correct HDMI input so that you can see an image from the set top box

If you're there, then you can pair the Ignite TV controller with the set top box.  Here's the instruction page:

How to Use the Ignite Voice Remote - Rogers

Select the correct instructions for either the XR11 or XR15 remote control.

When that is done, you can then pair the modem and set top box to use the correct wifi network.

1.  On the side of the set top box will be a button.  That is a WPS button that is used to pair the set top box to the modem.  Press that button.  (I don't know, but I don't believe that there is more than one button on that box)  It might be at the back of the box.

2.  On the modem will be a button, most likely at the back of the modem.  That is a WPS / Reset button.  Press that button within two minutes of pressing the button on the set top box.  You will only need to press the button for two to four seconds.  That should finish the pairing between the modem and set top box, and the set top box should be ready to go at this point.

Please let us know if this is working as expected

Ok, back at this tomorrow.  One step at a time....

I have an insignia tv in my bedroom, right in front of me right now and have the ignite remote programmed finewith it.

What hdmi port is the ignite tv box connected to your TV? The port should have a number on it. Let's assume #1.

Using you insignia remote turn on the TV. Use the TV remote button marked hdmi, pressing it should cycle through each hdmi input, say 1 to 4. You should see ignite tv pop up on one of these inputs.

Good luck.

Yes what input did you connect the HDMI cable to? its something like HDMI 1 or HDMI 2 or something else, but if you turn on your TV, if u want to see whats connected to that port to display on the screen, you need to change the input of the TV SET to that input, this is a feature of the TV, not Rogers,  your telling the TV to look for a picture on the HDMI 1 or 2 input, once you can figure that out, you should see a picture,  Use the Insignia remote to do this, or the buttons on the front/side of the tv (if it even has them)

Hi all, I turned on the tv this morning and it now is asking me questions to help pair my remote. That’s great BUT this question is “what brand is my TV?” and Insignia does not show upon the list? Now what do I do? Any ideas please?

Re: Will my new tv work with ignite?

Hi again, thanks to all for the help! I now have been able to pair my Ignite remote and seems to be working. Just have another question for any Insignia users: I have a yellow arrow pointing to the top left corner of my screen. I actually pressed on this and it made the screen open and I now can see the tv but how do I get rid of this bright yellow arrow?

Re: Will my new tv work with ignite?

Unplug the power cable for the set top box, wait for about 10 seconds and plug it back in again to see if that gets rid of the yellow arrow.

Have you connected the set top box to the modem via wifi yet?  If not, I'm wondering if the yellow arrow is an alert to the fact that there isn't a connection to the modem?

I just want to say a big thank you to all who have given me advice and tried to help me. I’ve given up and called Best Buy’s geek squad to come and finish setting up for me. So much for Rogers saying “just plug in the box and good to go!” No instructions for the TV of course. I try to keep up with everything but so much out there to learn about now. It’s hard for older seniors to keep up  with technology. Thanks again!

Re: Will my new tv work with ignite?

Sorry to hear that.  I'd bet that you're almost there.  It shouldn't take any more than 5 minutes, if that, to get your tv and set top box up and running.  Make sure that the the Geek Squad rep doesn't charge you an arm and a leg to get this done.  Do they have a call out fee plus a minimum time fee (1 hour for example)?

If you bought the tv from Best Buy, they should almost do this for free, given the time it should take a Geek Squad rep to do this.

the fact that you got a message to display on your screen when plugged in the box means the connection was good.
