Intermittent Poor Resolution on TV Sports App

gregmatt
I've been here awhile

Hi!

I use a sports app (TennisTV) that I access through my TV (LG 60UM7100).  When I had Bell Fibe TV, there was never any issues with watching recorded matches.  I recently switched to Rogers and have a Wi-Fi Xi6-T entertainment box supplying the signal to the TV.  I have done speed tests of the internet at the location of the box and there is plenty of bandwidth.

Now, with the Rogers box, the recorded matches will play fine for a while and then spontaneously degrade into a poor-resolution mode where it's hard to even see the tennis ball.  Then, after a while, they will spontaneously revert back to full resolution.  This will continue throughout the whole playback.

Are there any settings I can adjust for the Xi6-T box to improve buffering so that this doesn't happen?  There is plenty of bandwidth, so I don't know why I can't get a sharp, reliable picture.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Greg

Hello, @gregmatt.

We appreciate you joining our Community, and thank you for your detailed post. It sounds frustrating to experience those interruptions while trying to enjoy your favourite sports app.

The Xi6-T is a Rogers Xfinity Entertainment Box that allows you to access Rogers' TV services, including live TV channels, on-demand content and streaming from popular streaming apps on your television. However, it doesn't act as a WiFi access point. We can rule out the involvement of the Xi6-T box.

Your TV is connected to the Rogers Xfinity Gateway for the Internet. It's good to know your TV has a good WiFi connection.

Is the TennisTV app a built-in app on your TV? Have you tried any app-related troubleshooting? I suggest trying clearing the app cache and unplug/plug your TV to see if it helps.

Please keep us posted.

Cheers,
RogersMoin

Yes, thank you!  I realized after posting that the Xi6-T box had nothing to do with this.  I will try clearing the app cache.   I did measure the download speed to the TV using a web site on the TV's browser and initially got a very low number ( hundreds of kilobits per second) and so connected the TV to the gateway with an ethernet cable, as an experiment.  The result was 60 Mbps and tennis match replays with good resolution.  I then removed the ethernet cable and the WiFi connection jumped up to the same level as ethernet (60 Mbps).  The TennisTV app resolution has been good every since.  I do not know why the connection bandwidth to the gateway was so low to begin with and why connecting and disconnecting an ethernet cable seemed to correct the issue.
