Ignite TV on Laptop with low bandwith internet service

I've been here awhile

It is great being able to watch many channels at ignitetv.rogers.com on a browser. 

 

However, whereas Amazon Prime, Netflix, Disney and YouTube all work well with low bandwith DSL service, IgniteTV looks horrible.  It disconnects briefly but often and looks like standard definition most of the time.  (I don't have access to any better service unless I go with StarLink.  No thanks!!  

 

Why does IgniteTV's TVGO channels perform so poorly and what can be done.  I suspect that there is no buffering taking place.  There is no app for IgniteTV for Windows PCs, so where would buffering even be performed.  Can I configure my own buffering solution (of course why should I need to do that).

 

Any thoughts are welcome here.

@deansj  Whose Internet service are you using and how much bandwidth do you have available?

 

The only thing that I can think of trying on https://ignitetv.rogers.com  is going into Settings (click the gear on the top-right, next to the search box) and disabling "Play Best Available".

Thanks for the thought.  I have the setting that you suggested already.  I have what many will chuckle at and say "well that's your problem"..... a rural 6MBPS download speed with TekSavvy/.  Yes, it's slow.   However Netflix, Disney and Prime are all full HD all the time, no juddering, no freezing.  So it is about the content being fed or how it is processed upon receipt.  

 

I suspect ignitetv on chrome or any other browser does not buffer.  The others all do.  And buffering is actually GOOD to have, since while you wait a few seconds longer for the stream to start, it has a buffer of ready to play data so that it doesn't hiccup.

 

Rogers is "unique".  No buffering as far as I can tell.  No Windows apps.  (I could go one....)

Hello,

I was wondering if you ever found a solution to the apparent non-buffering problem with the Ignite app. I have the same issue at my cottage in Quebec north of Ottawa. I’m on a local radio Internet service that only provides 5Mbps download.  Netflix, Prime, YouTube all work great but Ignite is d.o.a. most of the time. I had a friend try his Bell Fibe app under the same conditions and it performed better but still not the same audio quality as the others. Thanks

Thank you for posting your inquiry. Download speeds of 5 Mbps is cutting it very close to the threshold required for HD streaming. You may find better performance if you select the option in the settings related to video quality. 

 

Please go into the settings in the Ignite TV app, select playback preferences and toggle off "Play Best Available" 

 

Let us know if there is any improvement.
