Long distance in local area

Smith1982
I've been around

We just got my son a cell phone number and when we called my parents (who live 5 mins away) said it rang long distance then they called his phone and they had to call long distance. Why is this? Are they getting charged if they call him?

Hi @Smith1982,

Welcome to the Community!

You've come to the right place! Have you tried to add +1 before your parents' number? Let me know if that removes the long distance prompt.

I would also recommend you to review your son's plan to learn what's included in it. To see if long distance is included:

  1. Sign in to MyRogers.
  2. Scroll down to the wireless number that you’re inquiring about.
  3. Select Monthly charges.
  4. If long distance is included in your plan, it will show up in your plan details and add-ons section.

Hello Smith1982,

To help you troubleshoot this issue, what is the Area code and FIRST 3 numbers of your Son's phone number,  and can you provide me the same, Area code and FIRST 3 numbers of your parents phone number.

What city do you live in?  once you give me this information, I will check for you what is going on.
