Slow Xfinity Fibre

keef_ca
I plan to stick around

I just got a Xfinity fibre (well cable...) modem on a 2g plan. It in bridge mode and I get 1g down. I realize it is UP TO 2g however only getting half is a little much.
Anyone else faced this?
Thanks, Bj

I have a 1.5 Gigabit service and get download speeds approaching 1.9 Gbps.

The XB7 and XB8 gateways have 4 Ethernet ports:  Ports 1-3 are 1Gbps; port 4 is 2.5 Gbps.  If you are not connecting to the 2.5 GigE port, your download speed will max out at 940 Mbps.

You also need to ensure that all devices on the network path operate at 2.5 Gbps and can sustain those speeds.

If you are performing speed tests from a Windows system, there are a number of things (hardware/driver, configuration or tuning-related) that can significantly slow down data transfers.

If you want to confirm that there are no problems with your Internet service, disable Bridge Mode on your Xfinity Gateway and perform a speed test using the Xfinity app, and that will test the speed between your Xfinity Gateway and a Rogers server.

@keef_ca : We see hundreds of similar posts each year an, as mentioned by @-G- above, the issue is almost always due to the customer setup, or equipment or OS settings, etc.  See the following two posts which go into greater detail on the topic:

My wife says I do that. I assume too much.
Connecting to the 2.5g port on the router was it.
