When you switch to Ignite Internet, you will need to switch to the Ignite modem/gateway. I don't think that you can pick up or exchange any of the Ignite TV or Ignite Internet hardware from a Rogers store. Rogers will probably ship a new gateway for you to install yourself . After your Internet service has been migrated, you will probably also receive instructions from Rogers on how to return your old rental equipment through Canada Post.

The more precise answer is that Rogers will only allow an Ignite modem/gateway to be activated on an Ignite Internet account. Ignite Internet still uses the same underlying DOCSIS cable Internet as the legacy Rogers Internet service. However, Ignite Internet is a foundational service that is used to deliver Ignite TV, and the Ignite gateway is an all-in-one device that is also used to deliver Ignite Home Phone. The value-added services that come with Ignite Internet are also dependent on the Ignite modem/gateway, and that's why a new gateway is required when you switch to any Ignite-branded service.

I just re-read your post and now see what you are really asking. I don't know whether or not your current modem will stop working on the day of the cut-over. Technically, there is nothing that will stop it from working. The question is whether or not Rogers will be deactivating the legacy accounts and whether your current modem will get deactivated in the process.
