Greetings!
Here are the instructions for logging into the modem directly. However, we recommend that you control your modem with our HomeConnect app.

Just adding to the above...
Try connecting to http://10.0.0.1/
This will not be a secure, encrypted connection but if you are just logging in from your in-home network, this is fine. Modern browsers should not try to upgrade this to a secure connection but if they do, follow the instructions in @RogersCorey 's post to connect.
The default username and password are admin and password. I don't think that the username is case-sensitive but the password is.
As Corey pointed out, when you connect for the first time, you will be prompted to set a new admin password. If you are unable to log in, check to see whether anybody else in your home had previously logged in and changed the password.
The only way to reset your admin password back to the default is to perform a factory reset. You can then re-do the basic setup with your computer's web browser, and it is easier to do this if your computer is Ethernet-connected.

I just had this installed and it says the user name and password are incorrect.

Good afternoon @stephanienykamp!
In such circumstances, I would recommend that you try factory resetting the modem. This should reset it back to the default login credentials.

I have tried the factory reset pin on the Gateway-XB6 modem and attempted to login with the default username & password while connected via ethernet, but it still won't work ("10.0.0.1 says Username or password is incorrect!"). Am I missing something?

When you perform a "paper clip" reset on the XB6, you need to ensure that you keep the button depressed long enough. Keep the button depressed until you hear the gateway's fan turn off momentarily, then release it.
If you did that, try performing the reset again and then be sure to perform the initial setup with your browser as quickly as possible following the reset. I'm not 100% sure about this but I think you now only have a limited period of time before the servers in the back-end try to restore the last-known configuration.
