Blink Sync Module 2 not connecting

WestendB
I've been around

Hi,

We have Rogers Internet with the Hitron modem  CGN3. Few days back suddenly our Blink cameras that were using the Rogers WiFi network stopped working. We tried to troubleshoot with the Blink support and found out that the Rogers Internet is blocking the Blink Sync Module 2 connecting to their servers. It gives an error saying WiFi password incorrect or you can not connect to the server.  However, we 100% sure that the WiFi password is correct. The same Sync Module2 and the cameras work totally fine when connected to the mobile phone's Hotspot (Telus), or other WiFi Internet such as Cogeco Internet. We tried with different sync modules and different wifi routers with different settings etc, connected to Rogers but the issue persists. It was isolated to the  the Modem settings or the Rogers Internet. Modem's firmware is 4.5.8.45. Also, we tested with port-forwarding on/off, ALG On/Off,  lowering the WiFi security to no security, Medium Firewall setting to No Firewall (lowest) etc, but no result. I have lost options.

Greetings @WestendB!

The CGN3 is one of our legacy modem models that we no longer offer. If you're having troubles with it, we should look at upgrade options to get you equipped with of our current modem models.

Please feel free to send a private message to @CommunityHelps so we can assist you further. For more information on how our Private Messaging system works, you can find out more here.

Curious, why would the Rogers modem block certain devices from connecting regardless of model?

I have a family member on Rogers internet and its an old looking device ad his devices all connect without issue.

Is there possibility that the model requires a power cycle or it needs to be defaulted etc?

Thanks

Re: Blink Sync Module 2 not connecting

I have the same issue. None of my blink cameras or sync module works after being upgraded to ignite and getting a new modem.

Re: Blink Sync Module 2 not connecting

Good morning @bakedpotato!

It's not that we've "blocked" certain devices but rather that modem has had its support sunsetted and we no longer offer it to our customers. This modem model is a 10 year old device at this stage and it's no longer receiving firmware updates.

The only thing I can recommend is to try factory resetting the device and setting it back up again from scratch. If that doesn't resolve the issue, then we should replace the modem with a current model that is fully supported.

which exact model did they give you?

I am using not XB6 modem, and my blink camera and sync module do connect fine to it.

Re: Blink Sync Module 2 not connecting

We have a similar issue! Rogers did some service in our area back in October and since then our Sync Module won’t connect. Keeps saying the wifi password is incorrect and I know 100% that it’s not. I’ve been pulling my hair out trying to figure it out.

Same issue.  Just upgrade to Rogers Ignite due to Cable TV being discontinued and Blink XT2 Sync Module cannot connect saying incorrect password when it is the correct one.  What did Rogers do?

@T_Red_N : If this is a 2.4 GHz device, some of them have issues connecting if you switch to IgniteTV.  Here's a post that provides tips for that scenario.

Thanks 57.  Just an FYI, my background is over 30 years in IT.  I would prefer to be able to setup and config my own modems and used bridge in the past.  But with age comes new tech and cannot do so much with the newer Ignite service.  I could, but then would break service.  In short, I already split and got my other 2.4 limited devices to connect.  Only the Blink XT2 security camera module and one Netgear WIFI extender are having problems.

Yes I have done several resets.  Same network name and password as before, etc..

If I could, I would disable the 5GHz on the Gateway and connect remaining devices and then reenable the 5GHz.  Assuming there is no other mysterious settings at Rogers or the Gateway inhibiting things.  Which I have seen in the past.

Re: Blink Sync Module 2 not connecting

Hi,

I recently changed internet providers to rogers and have been unable to connect my blink system.

We are having the same issue.  Very frustrating.  We just got a new modem - Shaw - 611F.  We cannot get our blink cameras to connect.

Re: Blink Sync Module 2 not connecting

Cory - what model of modem is supported for blink cameras?

Re: Blink Sync Module 2 not connecting

Hello, @Upset121 & @YK62.

Thank you for joining this thread and sharing your Blink system connectivity issues. When all of the devices can connect to your home WiFi network, and one fails, there is some incompatibility with that device.

Please check this short video and comments: Blink Camera Not Connecting to WiFi: How to Fix (youtube.com)

Please try the troubleshooting suggested in the above video to connect your Blink system to your WiFi network.

If further assistance is required, please provide the details of the troubleshooting completed and what component is failing to connect.

Regards,

RogersMoin

PS: @YK62, you may want to post in the Internet Discussions - Shaw Support.

I plan to stick around
I have the exact problem with two sync modules that can't connect to the Blink network. They worked fine up until three days ago when they both stopped connecting. It seems unlikely two modules failed simultaneously. The WiFi is fine and the modem is a recent model. I've completely reset the sync modules and nothing works for either of them. It really seems like this a case of Rogers blocking them or the blink network not working. However, the Blink network is reported as working and works at my brothers house in Ontario. There's nothing more I can do if the modules won't connect when the WiFi network is working fine.

Yup same issue my blink sync module has also been blocked as of a couple days ago for some reason. I know it’s not the blink modules fault because I can connect through my phone as a hot spot. Pretty frustrating. Guessing Rogers pushed some update that now blocks these modules.

Re: Blink Sync Module 2 not connecting

My blink camera worked great for a few months. Then all of a sudden started to work sporadically. When I contact blink they say it is a network issue. When I contact rogers they say it is a camera issue
The sync module says it is online and all cameras have a strong wifi and module signal
It is very difficult to go live view on the cameras and it only records motions sometimes
Blink support told me to check the following with Roger's.They checked everything and says it is fine

Have them lower the Firewall Settings of your WiFi.
Have them change the channel of their 2.4 Ghz into less congested channel 1, 6 or 11.
No Data loss or Packet loss.
MAC address of the device should be whitelisted on the WiFi settings.
2.4GHz Wi-Fi Network should be enabled.

IP Configuration: DHCP
Wi-Fi Security: WEP, WPA, WPA2 with TKIP SSID
Enable the Port 443. This is the Port that's being used by the Blink Service.
Please update the DNS, which is the Google DNS 8.8.8.8.

Very frustrating because neither blink nor rogers has any idea how to fix this problem

Re: Blink Sync Module 2 not connecting

Hello, @Rod-McLaughlin.

We're thrilled you joined our Community! Thank you for your detailed post regarding your Blink Camera connectivity.

Are you a Rogers Together with Shaw customer? What is your gateway's model?

By default, all the gateways will have bandsteering enabled. However, if one of your devices has connectivity issues, you can split the WiFi bands to see if it resolves the problem.

Please follow the tutorial below to split your WiFi bands:

Rogers Xfinity Gateway (Gen2)

Rogers Xfinity Gateway (Gen3)

Note: You can't split the bands if you have Rogers Xfinity WiFi Boost Pods.

After splitting the bands, if you need to do the port forwarding, check the tutorial below:

Rogers Xfinity Gateway (Gen2)

Rogers Xfinity Gateway (Gen3)

Note: Port 443 is used for secure web traffic through HTTPS, ensuring encrypted communication between a client (like a web browser) and a server and protecting sensitive data during transmission. As such, you may not be able to forward this port.

Thank you so much for responding. I already have the band splits. I have rebooted my modem and rebooted. The sink module from blink still no success. I was able to port the network and it worked great for about 12 hours and then stopped working again. Roger's says it is the fault of the blink module and blink says it is a network problem.
I had.
Already watched that video and numerous others. And still no closer to a fix.Thank you again for your assistance

Re: Blink Sync Module 2 not connecting

Good morning @Rod-McLaughlin,

Are you having difficulties connecting another other devices to your home network or is it only the Blink Sync Module that's not connecting?
