Hi Community!

Starting February 2022, all major U.S. carriers have begun to shutdown their 3G/HSPA wireless network service within the U.S. (including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands).

How could this affect your service? Read on to learn more.

For Rogers Postpaid Customers:

The US 3G/HSPA network shutdowns will only affect a small number of phones that do not support 4G LTE data and Voice over Long-Term Evolution (VoLTE) roaming.

Rogers postpaid customers with a device that does not support 4G LTE data and VoLTE Roaming services may notice significantly reduced coverage while roaming. Those affected will no longer be able to make or receive wireless calls (including 911 calls), send or receive text messages or use cellular data while in the US (including Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands).

You can still use your phone in Canada as you normally do.

For a list of devices not impacted by the shutdowns and more info, please check out US 3G/HSPA networks shutting down: FAQs

If your device is affected by the US 3G/HSPA network shutdowns and you’d still like to use talk, text and data services while travelling in the US, you’ll need to upgrade to a device that’s 4G LTE data and VoLTE roaming capable

You can upgrade your phone online >, or contact us so we can help you.

For Rogers Pay as you Go Customers:

The US 3G/HSPA network shutdowns beginning in February 2022 affects all Rogers customers with Pay As You Go wireless service travelling to the United States (including Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands).

Pay As You Go service is not VoLTE roaming capable, therefore upgrading to a new device will not enable the device to roam in the U.S.

You can continue to use your phone in Canada as you normally do.

If you would like to use talk, text and data services while travelling in the US, you will need to switch to one of our monthly postpaid plans and have a device that supports VoLTE roaming and 4G LTE data.

For more info please check out: rogers.com/us3gprepaid.

To switch plans visit our Wireless page > and select ‘Plans and add-ons’. Or, contact us so we can help you find the best plan for your needs.

I've been around

I have iPhone 13 Pro Max, I can’t ya my phone for voice&msg data is working. This is the issue with Rogers carriers settings 50.0. My friend has Rogers old carriers settings 49.1 that’s working perfectly.

Rogers technicians don’t know anything.

I've been here awhile

Seems to me we had a more consistent service before LTE, the 5G network coverage map is half of the coverage of 3G. What are you people thinking?
I get more dropped and unintelligible calls than ever before

what good is a new phone going to do if the network is useless?

get a grip Rogers

The first post of this thread intimates that PAYGo (Prepaid) services are not LTE roaming capable.

For clarification, this is not the case as discussed in the following thread:  Other service providers do have LTE on their Pre-paid service.

This appears to be a Rogers business decision (and not a technical one) that may, or may not, change in the future.
