Well there are different ways to do speed tests.
You could try to copy one BIG file sort of thing.. and see if you get the top speed.
Or you can do many smaller files simultaneously.
The problem with the big file type.. is that the source feeding you the file, needs to be able to UPLOAD that file at the higher speed (which it may not be capable of)
The chance of doing anything like that in a real world scenario is not likely
Vs simultaneous. It tests many smaller ones side by side. Its like many people using the same internet at the same time.

I am just asking cause Tech support asked me to run speed test on wifi and hardwired at the same time to give me true speed results and it seems a little iffy... they wanted me to do it on speedtest.net

You do simultaneous speed tests because some devices can only download to a certain speed then max out. By running two tests at the same time on two separate devices even if one device tops out at 300mb/s the other one can pull 600mb/s and you get your gigabit max speed. This is just an example, but most devices over WiFi top out around 600mb/s. Wired computers that are modern/good specs should top out a gigabit connection (940mb/s)

Yeah.. wifi speed tests are generally questionable..
There are too many factors which can effect it.. you may never get the max.
Speed tests are always better to be done WIRED if possible.
The is the larger chance that the card is capable of doing the same (or more) than what your plan is capable of.
But even then have to be cautious.
There are many laptops which have built in cards, which STILL only put in 10/100 cards.

@Method187 looking at the signal levels that you posted, I'm wondering if the modem is running DOCSIS 3.1 at the present time. The downstream LED on the front of the modem should be a light blue, and the OFDM Downstream section of the signal table should show one OFDM channel as active. Assuming that you do have one OFDM downstream channel running, I would call tech support, ask the CSR to run a signal check and ask specifically if the OFDM downstream channel data is within spec.
Having said that, if your downstream data rates, as tested with a speedtest are ok for your internet plan, and those results are consistent, then you can probably let sleeping dogs lie, as they say. If you're still not seeing the data rates that you should, then don't hesitate to call tech support and indicate that the data rates are still slow.
For the speedtest, use the www.speedtest.net - Toronto, Ottawa, or Montreal Rogers servers, which ever is closer to your home.
Fwiw, the upstream DOCSIS 3.0 signal levels are elevated above the usual 30 to 32/33 dBmV range that we see for modems running DOCSIS 3.1 on the downstream side. So, that indicates that there is signal leakage in the cable system, or, that there might be a noise issue in the system. You can also ask the CSR to look at the noise level and historical noise data to see if there is a noise issue for your modem and perhaps your neighbours as well. If the tech looks further out, he or she might be able to determine if there is an area noise issue.

Hello, I had a tech out here yesterday he said it looked fine but i thought i should ask yall cause he didnt seem like he wanted to even be on the job lol. Ummm my lights are blue downstream and upload rest are green. But i will probably give it another day and get back on tech support because I feel my speeds are crapping the bed. Now I know my lap top has only 100mb card. but I get like 30mb wireless down and up 30mb. Same on my google pixel xl 2 unless i connect to 5g and then I get like 200mb down and 30up even being 10 feet away from the modem. I also have some powerline adapters that are 500mb compatible and i get 15mb down and 20mb up. My ps4 wired directly from modem gets between 50mb down and 8 up tp 150mb down to 10mb up which i find funny cause the ps4 actually supposedly has 1gig ethernet card. I have another pc that is in the same room as the modem connected to a powerline adapter that I havent tried yet. I will be getting on that soon. Also on the gigabit plan so yeah

I wouldn't count on the ps4 for speedtests or fast downloads as it has a problem with a small TCP Receive Window. If you want to run faster download for example, you would have to run a proxy server. There is a series of posts here somewhere that discusses that. I believe its in a gaming thread.
Do you happen to have a desktop that you can test with? It sounds like you don't have a direct ethernet connection available, so, it would be worth buying something like a 50 Cat-6 cable. I've found that its worth having a cable like that around the house when you're trying to troubleshoot a problem. That would let you connect directly to the modem for test purposes and keep any wifi or powerline issues out of the problem. The first task at hand is to prove that the modem is delivering up to 950 Mb/s, but, that requires a test device capable of supporting that rate.
