I was in the Rogers store on Danny Drive in St Johns NL yesterday, December 9, 2024, as a Rogers customer, I asked a clerk for help as he stood alone with no customers to serve, to transfer my contacts etc from my old phone to my new phone, he arrogantly say it will cost me $70.00. I ask when this policy came into effect he shrugged his shoulders, I pointed out Rogers never charged me in the past, again no reply. I asked who's policy is this he said Rogers HQ.
Guess what Rogers have no phone numbers or email address for their senior management, what are they afraid of?
Thanks to the ignorance of Rogers employees and management I will be canceling my service with Rogers, ignorance with get you on EI.
Stay clear of Rogers is my advice.

Please Save your self the $70 dollars please. There is no need to ask the store to do this for you even if they charge for this service or not.
If you set your phone up correctly, there is no need to manually transfer your contacts from the old phone to the new phone, all modern smartphones will do this automatically for you as long as you have an email address set up on your phone.
Your email address stores your contacts to the cloud on that email server. Once you sets up the email address on the new smartphone, you simply turn on contact syncing and all your contacts will appear on your new phone
As for copying photos from old phone to the new? I never do this, Its kind of pointless filling your new phones memory, just copy them to a hard drive or cloud drive if anything

@Eric47 Most newer Android or Apple cell phones have a very simple migration function. You simply place the phones side-by-side and when you start up the new phone, it will ask if you wish to move files, etc from the old to the new. I believe this is accomplished via WiFi, although it can sometimes be done "wired" or from a device (or cloud) where you saved your phone's data (you do regular backups don't you?).
However, if your old phone is very old, this may not work. Here are some sample links.

Depending on the phone and how much you have on it, this can take a few minutes or a few hours - that's perhaps why they didn't want to do it at the store. It's not really Rogers job to do this although sometimes they may do it if they're not busy, or you get the right person.
You will need to update and check various phone settings to ensure the new phone works the way you want. Many people use the default settings but it's far better to go through all (or most) of the settings to make sure they are correct for your habits. Each person has their own preferences regarding data usage, etc.

So here is my take on copying information from phone to phone. Stores typically do not advertise or offer such service, however if the individual has offered to do it for free in the past, they are doing it as a goodwill gesture, otherwise if they do charge for it, its because it takes up their time and they have sales targets to meet.
Like 57 said, this can often be a time consuming task, it can take time away from the agents serving customers who are waiting, not just that but I have seen some agents who did it as a goodwill gesture also not be able to complete the copying process because the phones can have security features like a pin or password etc. sometimes a special cable or adaptor is needed that the customer forgot to bring if it can not be done with Wi-Fi or Bluetooth or nearby share.
